According to this measure, Luka, KP, Delon, Maxi, and Seth have been the Mavs best five players through three games. And THJ has been by far the worst.

Matches my eye test perfectly.

Indicates Lukas defensive improvement. I still think he is gassed in the 2nd half same as Porzingis. They play with lots of effort in the first half. Maybe Carlisle should try play them less in the first half. Figuring out the roations and getting in shape is a hard thing to do.

Also indicates only 4 positive players and Curry about neutral.

And Powell should be a major positive. Just need a trade for that 5th starter and keep Seth as the 6th man

I never have time to listen to a podcast but would like to start saving them to listen to on the road. But I only see a Listen link, no download link.

I think the lesson is pretty easy - stop shooting so many threes and focus more on things you are good at :-)

Or how about keep shooting and increasing the percentage?

It depends on the looks. I think *most* of them are good and *should* fall eventually. Of course in the last season(s) Mavs did underperform their expected eFG% because they had bad shooters (iirc). But if that happens again the way to go is get better players that can make the shots.

From that Ringer article: "Carlisle has created an egalitarian commune among the Mavericks who were once considered also-rans, building a supporting cast that resembles those of last year’s Nuggets and Clippers squads."

Media bias bs.

Brunson, DFS and Kleber were never considered also-rans. They're our guys. Mavs found, developed, valued and retained.

Wright never considered an also-ran. He was a key piece of Toronto's trade for an All-Star who helped them win a championship. Memphis would've matched if the Mavs didn't add assets to get him.

Maybe Curry "not Steph" could be considered an also-ran but he was a rotation player on WCF team. Is JJ Reddick also an also-ran? They're very similar players.

Powell was a trade "throw in" but he was young & unproven. Not really an also-ran.

I guess Jackson could be considered an also-ran since SAC gave up on him on his rookie deal.

THJ "Knicks chucker" could certainly be considered an also-ran.

Lee "aging journeyman" who doesn't play is an also-ran.

This tells me, good for the regular season, not so good for the playoffs. That type of team is the every once in a while title winner like last year and our Mavs title team. There's not much consideration of them nationally as title contenders, but the fans know they can pull it off. We're just trying to make the playoffs right now, so that's fine, but to believe this group will, at any point, be a contender (to the national media) takes a lot more faith than I'm willing to give.

There's lots of talk about a #3, I think we need a #3 and 4 that are 15 ppg scorers with good D or have to be high end 3nD the likes of OPJ and RoCo. If only we could get both of them!

Yeah, I don't buy the "also rans" thing at all. Most of our 3-10 guys are young and improving. I should've cut the quote off sooner. I really just enjoyed the "egalitarian commune" part of the quote.

Maybe. We don't really know what this team will look like by the end of the season. We may have a couple of future #3 on #4s on the roster. Hard to tell just yet. I sure don't expect us to be contenders this year though. Hard to succeed in the NBA playoffs your first year there. Gotta take your lumps, pay your dues
