A little bit of math to bear in mind as we roster build the next 10 days or so. When people say that we have about $34.5mm in cap space if JRich opts out and we don't retain the TO on WCS, that is $34.5mm max for one player and includes three minimum slots to bring the roster up to 12 players. If someone signs for $20mm, it replaces one of those slots leaving $15.4mm. So, for two players, we actually have $35.4mm in room. Divided 3 ways, we actually have $36.3mm to spend.
It works the other way also. If Powell is traded for air, it doesn't add $11.08mm to space because you have to add another minimum slot. It creates more like $10.1mm and would take space to about $44.6mm without JRich and WCS.
Seems to me that absent something bigger with KP there are two paths:
1. Operate over the cap and keep THJ, S&T assets for someone else and retain the full MLE. Advantage: Leverages amount of returning contracts and the MLE.
2. Create space and sign whoever you want, but have the r-MLE instead of the full MLE. Advantage: Controlling your own destiny (no dependence on a third party agreeing to a S&T).
