Elite roll man >> secondary creator
IMO an elite roll man helps Luka MORE than a secondary creator. A secondary creator is helpful when Luka is on the bench (which is important), but I first want to help Luka when he is playing.
Still not entirely sure what this is based on. The numbers show that Luka was just as effective (if not more so) with 5 out this year than he was with an elite roll man (Powell) the previous season.
What is truly important is having a strong mobile defensive presence in the middle. The reality is that most guys who fit that bill are not stretch 5s, so the alternative is that guy needs to be a high quality rim runner to create the space Luka needs to operate. I would be just as happy with Turner as I would with Holmes.
Now if you said interior defense >> secondary creator, I would probably agree. The problem is that bringing in Holmes on top of KP/Powell/Maxi is a huge misallocation of resources. Not only do I not really like the KP/Holmes fit, but spending over 70 mil on front court does not make a lot of sense. Get rid of KP (and ideally Powell) and Holmes makes a ton of sense.
