I like your analysis. 

But I'm wondering how that works, too. The Mavs don't seem to have the minutes to offer an additional wing UNLESS they have THJ outbound. And unfortunately, right now you're likely getting pennies on the dollar for THJ, who (despite the flaws we see) has real talent and should be of real value to a team who needs a scorer.

Do they look for the best 2-way bigger wing they can land for txMLE, and then sort it out later? And if they do it that way, can they get anyone worth having? One other note -- last summer, in a similar situation, GS just went for the ones who would come for a one-year minimum, and should the Mavs just try that instead?

Yeah, I don't know which path (Trade or MLE or VMin) for filling the final spot.  The minutes thing wouldn't bother me as much if we weren't paying Bertans all that money to watch.  How do you justify paying $6mm to Batum (using him as the archetype placeholder) plus tax with Bertans on the roster?  I wrote  yesterday about the timing of what I'm calling "THE" trade.  If that trade is still in the not too distant future, maybe you spend the money, add the body and figure it out after the TDL or next summer.  You'll have to send out multiple bodies in "THE" trade and you want to have enough leftover afterwards.

One other note.  While I like the idea of adding "Batum", there is some school of thought that Maxi isn't really a center.  He could certainly pick up whatever "Big Wing" minutes Dorian doesn't play.  I think the pendulum has swung WAY too far on Powell.  He averaged 25 minutes  post all-star break averaging 12/6 and fairly dramatically outplayed Maxi to close the regular season.  The team was 15-6 during that time.  He isn't the total dog poop that he's made out to be, especially in a more appropriate role off the bench.  I think it just as likely he's still in the regular season rotation and the Vet Min money is spend on someone like a Biyombo.
