But it’s worth remembering he was signed on a two-year deal worth $6 million. He was a fringe player not guaranteed to successfully carve out a role, and he didn’t. It’s likeliest he’ll be waived or traded for nothing before next year, but I’m not going to “fail” someone in this exercise when success was never guaranteed.

It’s a minor indictment on Burke that Dallas found so much success always playing two on-ball creators in the season’s closing months. He was largely ineffective when given chances, enough that Dallas never seriously relied on him as a stopgap creator even when a lead guard was injured or struggling offensively early in the year. He won’t be on the roster next season.
