2021-2022 ROSTER TALK: [ARCHIVED]
(06-01-2022, 10:24 AM)ItsGoTime Wrote: I’m kindof tired of hearing about all these cheerleaders on the roster that bring great team culture for so many years. I don’t get how much importance that has crept into the roster building culture. We HAVE to keep Pinson and Boban on the roster? WTF is that? They aren’t getting playing time but they are integral to what we are doing? It’s as if we’ve found the special sauce. News flash, we haven’t found the special sauce.

Those spots are being used like Cuban’s end of draft picks. Speaking of which, I’m sure Satnam would love to make $3.5M to sit on the bench and cheer the team on. Better yet, why not have a fan raffle for the 15th man on the roster. I’m sure whoever gets picked can feed energy into the team with well timed jokes and great big hugs for every little thing someone does. Powell just got a rebound? HUGE hug from the 15th man as if he just won us the game (sorry for the example, Powell getting 1 rebound isn’t a small thing, it’s HUGE for him).

It’s almost as if this is an acknowledged position in the NBA. I’m sure if we go back through the history of NBA champions, we’ll find players like this, right? Also, why do we need lockerroom leaders when we have emotional safety blankets in Boban and Pinson? Are they trained and certified emotional support pets, if so, they get to fly free with the team!

What really is Jared Dudley’s job if this team is full of “lockerroom guys”?

Pinson is peanuts.  Powell was overpaid but if I squint hard enough, I get why they did it and at least he pays.  Boban 2nd contract was a mistake, but again I can understand why they did.  You shouldn't have three of those guys on your bench and you shouldn't overpay them.  Powell can be useful, especially if you can get him on a veteran minimum for his next contract.  I'd keep Pinson around too with the goal of transitioning him to the coaching staff eventually.  Boban to me is the odd man out.  And maybe all three of them wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have Burke, Brown and Chriss giving you little to no minutes.  We just have two many small salaried players with no upside taking up roster spots.

+could give you minutes in the Powell/Bertans/Maxi rotation.
+even at his age becomes your best non-Luka rebounder.
-Defense?
-Does he eliminate Bertans playing time further diminishing his trade value?

Cuban does have a relationship with him.
