We worked under the assumption that Brunson WANTS to leave and then this trade is about as good as you can do in the situation. Gafford and Williams are the kind of cost-controlled young bigs you want, maybe need, to add to your expensive roster. You add a lot of trade assets for a big trade down the road, whether that is six months, 12 months or 18 months away. Usually when a trade for players like Harden, Lillard, Irving, PG13 etc. occurs the deal centers around ONE proven young future talent and draft picks. Who do you think the young talent is that the Mavs could throw into such a trade? Josh Green.   

As our team stands right now, you better believe the other team would be asking for Brunson in such a trade anyway, unless you can present them with another viable option, which we currently do not have.

So I think this helps winning basketball games in the long run. People always say let´s make a big deal like Philly, Clippers, Celtics etc., but these teams often dip into previously collected assets. We always blow our own whole future load and then we have to wait for two years for the picks to convert before we can go again.

Just seems strange when there is no hint that Brunson wants to leave, and I can't imagine a reason he would want to go to Wiz.

You seem so focused on that big trade for a star, yet you bemoan how bad this team is at making moves like this.  Are we really in that much hurry for another KP debacle?

Given the high level this team is playing right now, I'm not sure that mega trade is necessary.  I definitely don't think it makes sense to break this team up just to collect some assets in the hope of making a big trade that wont be the disaster the last couple of big trades were.
