Anyone know what Boston plans to do with Al Horford this offseason? He's owed 26.5m next year but only 14.5m is guaranteed. He's played well defensively, but it seems kind of hard to justify paying him the full salary, especially if they are in the luxury tax.
If Boston plans to waive him, this seems like a potential opportunity to move THJ. One more wing who can shoot would fit pretty well with their roster. From the Mavs perspective, waiving Horford might shed enough salary that they could re-sign Brunson and spend the taxpayer MLE without completely breaking the bank.
Making the trade legal is a little tricky as Horford would count as the full 26.5m incoming to Dallas, but only 14.5 outgoing from Boston. However, if I ran the numbers correctly Boston could simply add a minimum salary contract like Hauser (who??) in order to bring in THJ. And then Dallas could send a small contract like Burke or Brown to a 3rd team (absorbed into cap space or TPE) with some cash to make it work.
