A bit under 6 hours left. 

I‘d happily move on from THJr but I gotta agree with the concerns re the timing.

A) I don’t think he ever played any worse than he did before the injury 
B) He signed for less money than what NO (iirc) offered just a few months ago (terrible look)
C) Assuming he returns to the level of play of the last seasons he should be more valuable later on when his salary comes down 

Maybe he still has some fans around the league but I dont expect much on that front tbqh.

but regarding THJ, I think that the perception of him will change significantly when he is getting kid $16M in the last year of his contract and the salary cap is even higher.

That being said, the biggest argument for moving him now is the opportunity cost of that $20M contract.  I don’t think it’s actually all that bad for what he does, but the Mavs don’t lose a lot if he is moved given what other players are doing with his minutes.  So the question isn’t whether he is a good or bad contract, the question is whether the Mavs could get a better return by investing that $20M elsewhere.

I think the problem with KP is the same thing.  Overall his numbers are actually pretty good this year, BUT the Mavs aren’t much worse with him off of the court.  So what is the opportunity cost of having over $50M invested in KP and THJ?

In the past, “plan powder” came at the expense of team performance.  In this case, I don’t think the team suffers greatly if you turn their contracts into “dry powder”.  While I actually like both of them a lot and don’t think they deserve the level of hate they get, I’d be all for moving them just for the sake of moving them.
