Sorry, I left out the part where he reasoned that this was due to the injury. He was compared to Rubio and Ingles, if I remember correctly. I think the idea is that they want to maximize their chances this year, if I understood correctly, not that they had buyer's remorse already (though they might).
The point I'm trying to convey is that the tweet makes it seem like there's some ongoing conversations between the Mavs and Detroit about Grant, and what Fishcer said was that they're basically trying to use the THJ contract in any way that could possibly make their team better because he's injured, so he thought they'd likely get around to trying for Grant eventually.
