Help me understand this part. I read this around here all the time, and I don't agree. Here is my thinking:
I'm his biggest fan here, probably, but even I don't think he's a "create your own shot" type of player. When I think 6th Man, I think "instant offense." Van Exel, JET, Brunson, Clarkson, etc. Hell, even Burke might flourish in a role like that on the right team.
I can see an argument that THJ might be below the quality of the top 5 players on the team, especially this season, but I don't view his game as something that's going to be suddenly more effective off of the bench.
I'm not even saying I wouldn't bench him (he has been bad this year), and I definitely agree that DFS should be the one who starts, if pressed. I guess I just view THJ's value (when playing well) as a high minute, high volume shooter. For whatever reason, this year's offense hasn't prioritized creating opportunities for him. He also hasn't been shooting very well, so far, so I'm not sure which is the chicken and which is the egg. But, imho, if they decide THJ is not a starter (or closer) here, which is very possible as they determine how all of this fits together, he needs to be traded off of the team. I just don't think he's going to have much impact as a bench player. I could be way wrong, clearly, but it certainly didn't look like he was a fit in that role the last two times it was tried. Then again, different coach, different teams.
Speaking of trading him, someone remind me - does his new contract exempt him from trades for the entire season, or will he be good to move by the TDL?
