I think this is a misunderstanding of the Richardson situation. I think the Mavs were working with JRich agent on the Boston deal. If they don't have that deal in place (or a similar deal) then JRich opts out. We do that trade because we already know we are going to operate over the cap and that TPE has potential value (as opposed to nothing). I don't think there was a scenario where we simply hang onto JRich.
