This wasn't a deal where you choose Dinwiddie over Dragic. This was deal where you get to trade KP, get an acceptable playmaker and known commodity, and solve a contract issue. Your second option was to keep KP and try to wait and buy out Dragic in a competitive market.
It sounds like the first option is a smarter choice.
I suppose I worded my words poorly. I don't believe the KP trade primarily was because the Mavs wanted Dinwiddie. Like you said I think it was Nico largely talked about numerous times of flexibility.
But in doing that trade the Mavs also accepted that Dragic is no longer an option, and that Dinwiddie fulfills that role. And THAT to me is up for debate. But it's also a cost of getting off the KP trade.
