2021-2022 MAVS NEWS: 4th in West | WCF loss [ARCHIVED]

Much rather bank on the stellar defender finding a groove on offense as opposed to the short armed, short guy who is not all that quick figure out a role in the NBA.

Green's footwork and ability to stay with his man are nice, no doubt.  It just bothers me that he isn't getting burn with his national team.  I worry about his feel for the game and his shooting.

Terry looked pretty awful in his limited minutes, I'll give you.  We know his head wasn't right and he does have a valuable skill in being a deadeye shooter.  I think his ceiling is probably Seth Curry and he'd be lucky to get there.

I wouldn't lose sleep of either one of them, but Terry is more interesting.  Again, it's probably just the appeal of the unknown.  He also sounds like a coach in his interviews.

he's gotta get his shot figured out, right?

Justise Winslow looks completely broken to me. He’s only 25, but I think he might be done as an NBA player.

I guess I worry that it is more than just his shot holding him back.

Well, hopefully, but we got an upclose look at MKG, and he hadn’t. Can’t imagine he isn’t working on it though. It only needs to be serviceable to get him some playing time in my mind though cause he is a ball of energy on D. Cow may be right about his feel for the game though too cause not playing for the national team much at all isn’t good.

Looks like his feel for the game is great. It's just hard to play folks that can't shoot.

Is Powells contract really that terrible for a team like the Raps to take on?  I heard somewhere that his last season is only guaranteed for six million.   So that would be 11 million for a season and 6 mil next season.

How hard is that final year to stretch and waive or simply keep for a team thats not likely to make the Playoffs in the East.  I think that the Raps are asking too much for a declining expensive Dragic.

No, not at all.

It's not that terrible for any team, as long as he's sufficiently high in the rotation, which, judging by how much better he looked by the end of the season (way better than we all thought he'd rebound from the injury) might actually be the plan here, even.

What if the plan is to simply go back to the KP/Powell/Kleber rotation from the season before last? I know @"DanSchwartzgan" probably thinks that's worth a try. WCS as the 4th big, used situationally? DFS slides to the 4 every once in a while for spot minutes?

I hope the Mavs aren't done, and I truly think Dragic would make a difference here, but I can imagine that this could possibly be the Mavs' thinking.

Sure seems like it. Feels like we are just waiting on a Dragic buyout. If somehow Powell is moved then Mavs we be in the market for another big otherwise it feels like they are going back to that well for now.

I'm holding out hope that more than just Dragic is in the works, but that it all has to wait for this trade standoff to end.

That had better be it....because I REALLY, REALLY don't want to have to sit through a repeat of the last several years of directionless CRAP in FA with the only seeming goal to not spend too much money.

Why keep Powell? Why not have an expiring $19M contract? Why, why, why?

Mavs clearly don't want to give up an asset to get Dragic......GOOD FOR THEM.

I wonder if the Mavs have another place they can trade DP.

Who knows what TOR is all asking for. If it was just DP, then fine.

But WCS? He could be a revelation under Kidd.

JG or TT? Maybe the new guys see the raw talent they have.

Also, Duffy is a Mavs ally in this, let's not forget that.

Calling the Dragic talks an "impasse" implies that Dragic-to-Dallas is going to happen, with the details merely unresolved and stuck for a while.

That's a bit strong. They may already be down to haggling over details (the negotiating through the media seemed like that), but the longer it drags, the more likely it might never get beyond a proposal.

How long? If an agreement is going to happen, Fri morning at 11 am is a good milepost, when the league reopens and business starts being approved. The cap workarounds and deal alternatives begin to get fewer and harder after that point. In theory, a Dragic-Powell deal could still happen well on down the road, but if we don't see something in the next 36-48 hours, I'll consider it way less likely.
