I assume the SAC offer looked like the NO offer, with pick 17 heading back the other way, and taking Bagley being the price for MEM to move up from 17 to 9. Like the NO deal, MEM was willing to take on salary.
As for why they would prefer the NO offer, the Grizz are looking for paths to win now. Adams gives them a very useful player at center to replace JV, probably a starter. Bagley is just dead weight.
