He is 26, so entering his prime. He is scoring roughly 6 ppg in 20 minutes. His turnovers (1.3 pg) are a bit concerning at such low usage. Plays defense and doesn't do a lot of stuff that are above his abilities, but is sort of invisible on offense taking only 5 shots per game in 20 mpg on nothing special efficiency. His three point shooting is all over the place, probably due to relatively small sample. One season he is at 30 %, the next at 40+ %. That is great in limited minutes, but can it work in heavy minutes? I am affraid he is just a Kleber type - great role player that becomes underwhelming when asked to do too much (which happened to both Wright and JRich). Sure Kidd knows best what he is and what he is not. But from what I know, I would be extremely reluctant to sign him even near MLE level money, let alone more.
Above all, Mavs need another competent scorer. If you go for Caruso at guard, the big target would likely be someone like Holmes or Collins. Neither really good at creating for himself. I would be extremely affraid about our spacing if we lose THJ for Holmes/Caruso or even Collins/Caruso. How much sense does it have to bring a secondary facilitator at guard and Caruso while trying to get minutes to Brunson and Green?
