There's an obvious staring contest. The market for Lauri has all but dried up and only a few teams remain if any (and this is the real key piece). Lauri has made it clear he does not want to return to CHI. CHI has made it clear that they don't (and haven't) view Lauri as an integral piece of their team.
CHI can charge whatever they want for Lauri, but if they want to be serious and actually get a deal done they'll lower their expectations. Which is why I said it was comical that they are asking for it. Doomsday scenario for CHI is Lauri taking the QO and then leave next year without them getting anything in return. Trading him would become even more difficult because I believe Lauri gets a no-trade option at that point as well (and he'll decline any trade because he'll lose his bird rights).
This is like someone is at a garage sale trying to sell their old collectable. There is some interest from like 3 people that want it for 5 bucks. As soon as prospective buyer comes up to the seller the seller informs him that he'll only give away that old collectible for $300,000. "Sure..." says the buyer, and everyone promptly goes back home without a deal in sight. At the end of the day the seller is still left with something he'd much rather not have.
The FRP is of course not unprotected, imho. So a reasonably protected FRP (like lottery protected) is really not that high of an asset, especially for a team that has a lot of them. Like NO.
If Chicago alternative in Lauri drama are less than FRP (lets say a second or two) or Lauri for QO, I am not sure I wouldn't prefer the QO. Lauri would still have to play his ass off to earn a good contract next year and Chciago certainly needs more bodies at PF and C.
