I always thought it was a little strange that Sterling's contract was not for the full BAE amount if that's the slot he's destined for. But if you think of his $3mm as about half the rMLE it maybe makes a little more sense. That could lend credence to the idea that the cap space is being used elsewhere and one more small piece can get the other half of the rMLE after that.
BTW, I wonder if they might be saving a little space for one of their multi-year minimum offers if one of the undrafted guys blows them away in camp.
