The latest moves put the Mavs in a disastrous place, pending what comes next. 


Thinks Rick's departure was part of a chain reaction from the dysfunction. Donnie thought it had reached the point where he had to say something about the "shadow GM." (Fish speculates that Donnie might be one of the sources for the article.) Mark may have fired Donnie for complaining. Then Rick thought, if this is the way things are, I’m out of here. On Monday morning, Rick had no interest in leaving Dallas. And today, he is gone. 

Rick and Luka butted heads now and then, but they worked together brilliantly. One of Carlisle’s biggest regrets is probably that he may never again coach a player like Luka. That he would walk away from that speaks volumes. 

There was a real conflict between Rick and the analytics department. The analytics department has way too much authority and visibility, compared to most such departments. 

If Cuban hires Ujiri, lets Ujiri hire the new coach, Luka is happy with it, and Cuban steps away from the curb, that would put Mark ahead of the game.
