Kidd’s hire in Dallas is a forehead-slap moment because of the Mavericks’ history, one that includes an explosive 2018 report of widespread sexual harassment on the team’s business side, and the more recent dismissal of personnel director Tony Ronzone in the wake of a sexual assault allegation. One can argue about the general idea of hiring Kidd (more on that in a bit). But hiring Kidd for this specific team, in the wake of what’s happened in the past few years, seems tone-deaf to say the last. It comes across as a brazen dismissal of the entire idea that anything in Dallas needed fixing. The Mavs have announced the press conference featuring Kidd and new general manager Nico Harrison won’t take place until July 15, a much longer timeline than is traditional for the first availability of two very significant hires. One hopes that they can learn a few lessons from Portland’s missteps. Even so, the Mavericks have a lot more convincing do than Portland does, given the many documented missteps by the franchise and the fact Kidd’s case came with a conviction. Also, while we’re here … is Kidd even good at coaching?

Perhaps Melli could make Maxi expendable?
Melli can't shoot anymore for whatever reason, but his defense is still solid.

It didn't work out and I guess that is all that matters at the end. My biggest issue is if Dallas did not due the legwork beforehand to know about Reddick's injury. We didn't see much of Reddick to see if he would have really helped this team, but I would think the odds were decent he could have been a productive player in some playoff situations. Although the Clippers would have been a challenging matchup for him as well. I liked what I saw from Melli as well. Not as an every game rotation piece, but teams need guys on your deep bench who when they have their number called can give a good 5-6 minutes. Melli is a smart player and I liked how he played. He just needs to shoot better. I think if he shot better, he could make a case to be a solid rotation player. He is probably not back next year, but he has some moments where I liked what I saw.
