Nico Harrison would be an excellent hire - relationships, folks. Players and agents.

Oh damn, that's not the GM, that's the job we all thought Finley would have!

LOVE this...UNLESS it means Finley will be GM. That shoe had better not drop.

Why'd you have to get me thinking about Ujiri again? I was starting to trend towards a better Mavs mood, pal.

Yeah Cuban was pissing away the Championship...most ironic picture ever...

Thats certainly a name I've never heard of.

But grabbing a high up Nike exec who undoubtedly has connections isn't a bad move. Hope he's good.

OH shit.

I didn't even notice it was for PBO not GM.... Which means either Finley stays on in his current role of vice president of basketball operations or is the new GM.

I really hope he isn't the GM.

If Harrison (as Stein hopefully reported truthfully) has withstood previous attempts from NBA franchises to lure him away from NIKE, then he is not coming to Dallas to be Cuban´s puppet. Most certainly Finley won´t make any decisions over his head, designated GM or whatever his job title will be. Harrison will be in charge or he will Rosas in three months. That´s at least my humble opinion.

Whoever it is, will Cuban give him full autonomy to run the franchise? I doubt it. And what's the difference between  President Of Basketball Operations and GM?  Which is ranked higher?

They're just separating the job into two. A growing trend, and not a bad thing, as long as the right guys have the jobs, are on the same page with each other and both are allowed to work without Cuban butting in destructively.

They're not bringing Harrison here to decide they need a bench guard who can handle and shoot, that's the GM. Harrison's job will be to get the guy they want to sign. That's an oversimplification, of course. He'll basically be the face of the team on the basketball side, like Pelinka or Rose.

I would assume Harrison will be in charge of the overall strategic direction of the basketball operations side. Oversee and approve the hiring of the GM, head coach, scouting staff, assistants etc. etc. Put everybody on the same page (owner, coach, GM, scouts), so you can execute one strategy collectively. No more working against each other like it seemingly took place between all levels in the Mavs hierarchy, which started long before Voulgaris. The GM/head coach would be trusted to implement those directions, strategies and targets into their every day work, but under a clear unified vision of the President. And if they deviate from the instructions, they get canned.

We didn't have GM for very long time, other than 3 months in 2013.
It might not change
