If Luka's camp comes out with a statement that is not only Donnie positive but Mavs org negative, yeah that could be the 1st sign of something potentially disastrous.
Talking Pelicans / Anthony Davis style disastrous in terms of killing the lifelong Dirk in Dallas superstar continuity dream.
All speculative though here, maybe not much to it, from a Luka perspective.

Luka is not going to be making a statement about anything. That is fake news.

Carlisle not wanting to be here is exciting.

I don't know where you're getting this info that Bob is even staying let alone a front runner for the new GM position.
KOC said he's on his way out. Another ringer guy said Harlabob might stay on in some capacity. Applying Occam's Razor, given that Harlabob has tenuous relations with a lot of people in the Mavs organization, most notably Luka (as said from Cato), it's hard to imagine Cuban keeping Harlabob in any capacity.
It wouldn't make sense keeping a vestige of the old front office if they're trying to shake things up. Further why the heck would they pay for an outside consulting firm for a GM search if Cubes had the guy he wanted in house all along?

It's easy to hindsight the KP trade, but when you look at how patient Utah and Phoenix were, it shows you how bad we are at most facets of roster construction. Was Delon a Donnie thing, Bob thing, neither, both?
I was really excited for Bob to come aboard the Mavs and for whatever reason, I don't think its' yielded the results I had hoped for in terms of roster building.
Roster Building.
I dont know what acquisitions he is specifically responsible for. You seem to know a lot more than me.
What is Voulgaris' vision exactly? Has his vision been implemented unimpeded by Mark, Donnie or Rick?
Ok...Players might not like him? If his ideas are so valuable...keep him away from the players. If his ideas are pissing the basketball players off(example: No more post ups, you cant dribble more than x amount of times a possession, only Luka handles ball)...Mark needs to speak with Rick and figure out if Bob should give insight on such things anymore. If his roster building ways failed...Mark needs to determine if this guy is smart enough to retain a position doing something else within the org.

...I see a lot of assuming that this is part of a plan, and that it has been done for a while. Idk...I think it's just as likely that this article prompted Cuban to try to "get to the bottom" of who is unhappy and talking, and then once everyone's cards were on the table and he STILL wanted to keep this haralabob guy around Donnie decided to take his toys and go home. I can easily imagine that it worked out that way, actually, but we of course don't know.
The only issue with this theory is that supposedly Cuban decided to part ways with Donnie on Sunday. The Athletic article came out on Monday. So if the article was the supposed nail in the coffin, unless Cubes had a time machine, it couldn't have been the motivator behind the choice for Donnie to walk away.

Donnie liked Porzingis. Just like he liked Shawn Bradley and Pavel Podkolzin. I wonder whether any disagreement about how to navigate the crossroads the team is at with KP factored into all of this.
*Raises hand*. Mentioned earlier, the Brad Stevens solution. If the disagreement was all around Nelson only and not a bigger issue on the season and general direction status of the team, then the question of what the new GM wants to do directly impacts the coaching direction and vice versa.
That's a symbiotic thing. If they still love Rick up top then yeah, they might consider that option as a way of keeping Rick in house.
Now if differences with Rick are anywhere in the mix or if the desired GM is an "I am going to want my guy" type then it raises a lot more questions that carry into the entire next season.

I don't think anyone knows anymore than anyone else here. I just think we can look at the tire spinning we've done as far as how the roster is constructed and wonder who made the call and who had the loudest voices for the decisions that have been made. We will probably never know the truth.
I just liked Bob going into this because he was an advanced analytics guy and I have always thought, and still do, that with the current structure of the Mavs (including Cuban) our best bet was some form of Basketball Moneyball. Sort of like the rag tag group of role players that were put together for the 2011 title run.

Two things: 1) The Sunday decision date could be an outright lie by Cuban. 2) He was probably well-aware the article was coming out.

Not definitively. IMO the fact that the official Mavs press release has a statement from Cuban but not from Donnie is circumstantial evidence that it was Cuban's decision. But we'll see.

I guess the solace I take now in the unknown is that the old leadership set us down a very unhappy path regarding Luka's future. We might yet still get to that point, but for now, unknown is hope.

I'd be cautiously excited about Donnie's departure if it weren't for the context of the Atlantic piece.

Given the optics that all of us can see, I'd stand behind the plausibility of those conjectures.
