There is zero chance the Heat would give up Herro for Lowry. That would be nuts.

Right now, Embiid has the inside track on MVP, because his team is at the top of the conference (and #2 in the NBA) and he is stellar on BOTH ends of the floor. He's a good bet to land on the All-Defense team, and he can also match Jokic stat for stat. 29.9 pts 11.5 rebs 3.3 asts 52.5% 42.2 3s 85.9 FT 31.5 PER Dragging down Jokic's MVP chance are the facts that his defense is so-so to poor, and his team isn't close enough to the top (5th in the West, 8th in the NBA). However his season offensively has been incredible. Near the best, perhaps.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up other top seasons to compare to Jokic.
Jokic season-to-date he has 9.7 Win Shares. Some other seasons .... Giannis last year 29.5 pts 13.6 rebs 5.6 asts, 11.1 Win Shares, 31.9 PER ...and also #1 Defender in the NBA (DPOY) Wilt in 62-63 50.4 pts 25.7 rebs 2.4 asts, 23.1 Win Shares. 31.8 PER Jordan in 87-88 35.0 pts 5.5 rebs 5.9 asts, 21.2 Win Shares, 31.7 PER ...and also #1 Defender in the NBA (DPOY) Also noteworthy is Olajuwon's 93-94 season in which he won MVP, DPOY, Finals MVP, and a Title. No other player has ever had a year of offensive, defensive, and team dominance like that.* *To be fair, the fact that DPOY only began in 1982 and Finals MVP in 1969 is all that kept players like Mikan, Russell, Wilt, and Kareem from sweeping those honors in a year.

Portland just lost a heartbreaker against Brooklyn. Blake Griffin looks really good coming off the bench.
Very happy to see at least 1 WC team lose tonight. Lets hope GSW follow suit.

I don't know why Dame doesn't get more MVP buzz in a season without a clearcut leader. No one is more valuable to their team. When Dame has a bad shooting night, the Trailblazers are cooked. They can be susceptible to calling a game based on their betting habits. We've speculated on Cuban playing a HUGE part in the calls against our team. We've heard national broadcast teams talking about "makeup calls" and "superstar calls". There is little doubt this also goes on goes on in the head (and maybe in instruction from lead refs out loud when they're not mic'd up). I'm so close to giving up on this product and past time.

It feels like Talen Horton Tucker is like a new fad in the NBA. Before him it was Caruso. Before that it was Kuzma.
Lakers bench guys always get overrated. (03-24-2021, 07:25 AM)HanspardShowerVoice Wrote: I don't know why Dame doesn't get more MVP buzz in a season without a clearcut leader. So he has all the counting stats. Then add in his multitude of gamewinners and just general elite clutch play. I think Jokic and Embiid deserve the hype they're getting, but after them? Dame should be right there.

It's crazy because Portland is 20th in the NBA in point differential at -1.1 but are 9th in winning percentage. So they basically win a lot of tight and close games because in the final 2-3 minutes of a close game it just comes down to Dame and the other team swapping possessions, and Dame wins the battle the majority of the time. Dirk-esque. |
