I think this means the cost will settle at 1 FRP + young player. Everyone is playing hardball now and then they will compromise Thursday.
Nesmith + FRP + ??? = AG + EF
Boston's trade exception is $28.5m. $35m would be coming back from the Magic.

Other than the fact that it reduces tax owed, does this have any value? Or is it just a trivia note?

Yeah, they would have to salary match Fournier's salary with at least 12.15m outgoing. Assuming, of course ...

I thought I read that the Celtics are hard capped and can't really use the whole exception

They’re hard capped from using the MLE on Ibaka, so they cannot go above the tax apron at any point in the season. This will give them the room to sign a player that’s waived by another team. Otherwise they wouldn’t be able to

Smart makes 12.9m. Kemba's contract matches up neatly at $34.3. Boston have a lot of ways to peel this onion.

Good point. Thanks.
So now they have an extra $2M of latitude, and 2 empty roster slots. I think minimum salary for the rest of season would be about 550K give or take. Makes sense.

Really interesting celtics proposals:
Orlando is in a bad way with their salary this year and going forward
Boston could take on Gordon + Aminu into their trade exception
Also add Fournier and Ross
Orlando could receive Kemba, Tristan Thompson and Nesmith
Maybe all without even attaching picks. If I’m Orlando I’d be thrilled with that. Add Kemba and a young wing all while clearing the books. Boston adds good players now without sacrificing the future

The question really is where do you rank Collins. He’s not AD, Giannis or probably Zion, but how many more PF’s do you put in front of him (especially when you take age into account...Durant). Siakam? Randle? Tobias? Isn’t he in about that same class, but younger? How many more?
It's not just about where you rank Collin's value. There is question of fit as well. I'm not entirely sure a starting lineup including KP/Collins/Luka is going to be good enough defensively to truly contend. For a team that was historically good offensively last year but struggled defensively, trading our best defensive player who fits perfectly with Luka and KP for an offense driven player with questionable fit may not be the best use of resources. Especially because it would likely take more than Maxi to get the deal done, so you are burning more assets in the deal and then probably maxing (or coming close to) Collins next year. I doubt I would be interested in doing what it would take to get Collins.

I'd rather have Collins and Maxi together than Collins and KP. You're gonna end up trading KP anyway if you get Collins because no way will both of them be happy sharing frontcourt touches.

Magic are crazy if they think they're getting 2 FRP AND a young prospect in return for a 0 time all star role player.
Sure Gordon is good, but he's not that good.
Johnson+Green+Powell+Terry+2 2nds for Gordon+Fournier would be my max. I could be talked into including a 2025 FRP but that's pretty rich already.

That "historically good offensively" status is not a birth right. In fact, it doesn't exist any more. Note that Powell was the starter when that was achieved. That version of Powell is no longer with us. Neither is Curry.
If we are going to use 19/20 data as a reason to avoid adding offensive talent, then there are other numbers to consider. One could also observe that the historically awful performance we saw in the clutch is a reason not to load up too much on defensive specialists who are limited offensively. Seems to me a guy who can roll, post up, hit a mid range and pick and pop a 3 might get us back to being historically good offensively and the added diversity to the offense would help with late game execution at the same time.

I'm lower on KP than most people here, but even I'm not comfortable moving him to play without a center, especially given how well the team is playing these days.

I would go with a 3 big rotation, so you could start a more conventional shot-blocking C and then Maxi can come off the bench to play with either guy.
