What if the Mavs are actually good on defense? Tongue

Once threes start falling in as they should (so many open looks missed today...), we can start thinking about Mavs as contender.

Thanks for this.  I wonder if there is a similar graph for 3 point shooting.  What this graph tells me is good health fixes our defensive issues.  Does it also fix our 25th ranking in 3%?  If not, what can we do to improve 3% without giving up D?  That would be the order of the day at the TDL if we knew the top of the roster was written in stone.

I think the question - is low shooting percentage just a statistical small sample anomaly and guys will start shooting better at one point?

If our defense is legit, I wouldn't try to make changes and risk destroying it (unless we can get a two way stud). I would run it with this team and hope shooting improves. If it doesn't, there will be options to improve in the summer.

JRich    29.2
DFS      34.1
JJ         25.9

If I were Green or Bey, I would work on my three point shot and maybe get a starting role.  The threshold is not very high.

The real 3pt duds last night were dropped by THJ (3/11), Luka (2/10) and DFS (1/5). 5/26 = 19.2% which means the rest of the team shot 45.3%.

Luka has been better in recent games and THJ doesn't usually shoot that badly, nor does DFS. A little rust maybe?

The three point shooting has gotten better, except for DFS and JRich.

The questions are, was last year an anomaly for DFS, and this season a regression to the mean, and why has JRich shot below his career average two seasons in a row?

THJ is always going to be streaky, but he's hitting about the same as last season, and Luka has improved recently.

So, our two biggest opportunities to improve shooting are DFS and JRich. But that might come at the price of decent defense.

I'm still a believer in DFS's shot. It was showing signs of rounding into shape about two weeks before the all-star break (after a ton of routine-busting crap he had to deal with in the first half of the season) and now he seems to be on another 4-5 game slump. I think by the end of the season, we'll feel much better about those corner threes, personally.
