Nico's mess wasn't going to be fixed in an offseason and I don't think anywhere here believes any differently.  While our guard rotation is extremely concerning, MBT3.0 probably just couldn't address that concern in an acceptable manner.  Better to be patient than to try and rush things which can lead to overspending or trying to jam a square peg in a round hole.

I genuinely wonder what their plan for this year is. It certainly cannot be wins maximization (in the Cuban way) otherwise they would have addressed that guard rotation further, no matter what people think of these alleged bad guards, we could have had a free run at guys like Sexton, Mathurin, Simons, Schroeder for no cost at all.

My guess for their perfect season would be accelerated young player development all year, health and acquire a pending free agency difference maker (Barrett, Herro) for a late play-in push. Finish strongly like 18-12 (9th or 10th place in the West) for your fans, your players, reasonable odds for a small chance  at #1 or #2  and to make yourself attractive for top players in free agency. 

If they can´t get the difference maker at TDL I would not be shocked, if they go into the tank completely. Mavs really don´t have to worry about handing Charlotte a good pick, but they have to worry about swapping/giving valuable stuff to the Thunder, Spurs or Rockets from 2028 onwards.

This looks like another bad team. Maybe not quite tanking level bad but there's going to be a lot of ugly basketball. Very little progress has been made in the last year.

I personally hope we hang onto Kyrie, but if we do decide to move on or he wants out, I think the Spurs would be an interesting trade partner as Fox would be a decent Kyrie replacement and we could restock/reclaim some draft capital.  I could see the Spurs doing it as an all-in move since their championship window is now.  And I could see us doing it if we struggle out the gate and assuming Kyrie is close to his old self.  Kyrie is probably our last asset that could bring back something of merit.

Flashes. All you want to see from a late round rookie is flashes. Anyone that thinks he’ll be some ROY candidate is just being a super fan. I hope those of us on the board can see it for what it is and give the kid some leeway. Same for Morez. Same for Tarik. None of these guys are likely saviors. Time! Patience.

I went into last year saying I just wanted to enjoy watching basketball again and be entertained.  Well, last year was awful.   There were a few brief moments of pure bliss with Cooper but the rest was just brutal.   Most here were rooting for the Mavs to lose every game and the season was such a grind.   

I would be fine if the Mavs skipped ahead a few steps on their rebuild, but if it doesn't all come together right away.  I would like to just enjoy watching basketball again and be fun.   It would also be nice to have other teams try to play well to beat you.    I think my hope for the season is we leave this year with a interesting, nice young core around Cooper.   Hopefully that is Morez, Lively (although it looks like he may not still be fully cleared working out as he has not been showed by the Mavs working out), Risacher, Sergio, Max...etc.  A few of these may or may not pan out.   Having a start of a young core with also solid players in the mid to late 20's playing well would be an added bonus.  Then you have Kyrie.    The start of a young core would give the organization a lot of optionality to see if they can turbo charge this rebuild over the next year or two.

I was low on Risacher's play last year but find myself more positive now.   I think it is a confidence and toughness thing.  Maybe that is what keeps him from reaching his potential, but I want to see how May does with him.   I am less sure on Marshall.  He is the better player currently, but I have trouble viewing his role long term here.   His contract extension shows they think it can work out.    I am iffy on that extension still.

The Naji extension was an overpay.  Hard to imagine a team is going to pay more than the MLE for him in the open market, so seems like it should have been a little under the MLE instead of over.

So far Massi is mostly following hist historical pattern.  The hiring of May had me thinking maybe he was going to operate differently, but since then he has:

Drafted Morez, which is the most Massi of draft picks.  I'm surprised more folks didn't predict this.

Made quality trades that managed the cap deftly.

Overpaid on an extension.

That is a good summary of his MO.  If he continues the pattern, there is good change at least one of Gafford/PJ/Kyrie will be traded at the deadline.

Similarly, whatever you think of Cuban’s stewardship of the Mavericks during his tenure, we can all agree he would not have greenlit the trade of Luka Dončić to the Lakers as Patrick Dumont did. It took a Cooper Flagg lottery mulligan to begin to stanch the civic bleeding among Mavericks fans after Dončiċ’s departure. I will not believe that the team’s new owners decided they weren’t going to pay Dončić the $350 million extension for which he was eligible and, thus, were quite amenable when told by then-general manager Nico Harrison that he wanted to move on from the young star.
