Cleveland saves money but gets a player who has not been good lately. Still has 3 years and 24 million left on his contract, I believe. Schroeder has three years left at 14-15 per year but only 4 million guaranteed the last year. Seems like a weird to invest in that money.
I assume this is all cap room or opens up another move for one of the teams. Stein says this is Schroeder's 12th team...one short of the record. He will surely be on a few more teams the next few years.
If not out of the league for good, see Pat Bev.

Bobby Marks: Swapping out Dennis Schroder for Tre Mann creates savings below the apron for Cleveland. First apron: $32m below; second apron: $44m below. The figures do not include a new contract for James Harden. For now, Cleveland is likely to have the $6.1m tax midlevel exception. A sign-and-trade (incoming salary) hard caps them at apron 1. The Cavaliers free up $6.8 million in this swap. They’re approximately $30 million under the first apron with at least one open roster spot, one of which is for James Harden. They’re also $42 million under the second apron and could still increase payroll up to it. Dennis Schroder has now been traded 9 times. He’s now the second-most traded player in NBA history.

So if Schroeder is the #2 of most-traded players, who’s #1?

I believe it's Ish Smith

Without using AI maybe Drew Gooden?
Also nice of the Cavs to send Schroeder to Charlotte. He needs to get his reps in with Anderson and Steinbach for LA 2028 to complete the gold medal set.

Is there a version of this that works with PJW or Gafford outgoing and ONLY Cam Johnson incoming? Would that put them into the tax? What if Martin were included?
Sure, I supposed PJ for Cam Johnson stands on its own with one caveat. As discussed before, the $3.25mm salary difference is enough to get Denver under the second apron. It would temporarily put Dallas over the tax by about $1mm, but that is easily remedied by buying out Klay. That's the caveat. Klay would need to be bought out or there would need to be another trade that brought in someone for less money than was sent out. BTW, the larger trade that involved Mathurin required the same thing. Dallas moves from $2.3mm under the tax to $6.2mm under the tax if Klay gives up the full vet min contract he would presumably receive elsewhere and either scenario requires that extra space.
The one thing I don't like about a Klay buyout is it removes a large expiring contract from possibly being used in a mid-season trade. This deal would replace Klay's $17mm expiring with Johnson's $23mm expiring.

RoyTarpleysGhost was correct. It's Trevor Ariza who's been traded 11 times to 10 different teams.

PHNX Suns: Brian Windhorst says Miles Bridges will likely wait to sign extension with the Suns until after this offseason. "[Phoenix] not only has an intent to pay him, but they have an intent to really give him a big role." (Via The Hoop Collective) Not only is Mat Ishbia's tenure not threatened, the Ishbia family is INCREASING their stake of ownership in the Phoenix Suns to almost 99%, per a UWM statement to @Bloomberg.

They traded one expiring contract for another, except Schroeder has a partial guaranteed for 2027/2028 and I let you guess how high that is exactly.
Cuban be like $4M? How many 2nd round picks do you want. Four? Five?

Does an expiring Cam have more value than PJ? Better shooting for half a season doesn’t move the needle so this would be a purely asset trade.

See, I don't necessarily view expiring contracts, especially in this case as a plus.
If you're looking at top 8 rotational pieces, but Johnson isn't necessarily a big upgrade over PJ, and you want to keep him, then you're putting yourself in the position to have to sign what could be an ugly contract. In other words, is Johnson worth the $22m+ per year (probably 4 years) he'll command as a free agent? Otherwise you're giving away PJ for free.

At the risk of doing another Dingus Pingus trade of rushing to find a wingman for your up and coming superstar, who are the select few players you'd be opportunistic on?
Let me preface that I don't necessarily think this one would happen, but:
If at the TDL Philly offered Maxey for Kyrie, but they wanted two unprotected 1sts and two unprotected swaps plus Ish, would you do it? On one hand, you land a young All Star PG. On the other hand, that's pretty much shooting your wad. (In this exercise, let's assume Philly offers this because they think they can flip those picks plus the Clippers picks and literally trade for anything.)
Who else would you consider that price for?

We can all rest assured that my expertise is in nuclear energy, particularly the fine electronic hardware and software necessary to avoid melt downs, or catastrophic explosions--rather than basketball trades, team building, monetary valuations, and the melding of individual players into a championship team--but I wouldn't do that particular trade.
First: I value Kyrie in his current role more than I would Maxey. Kyrie will be around for the next 2 years, with a PO, at about $40,000,000 a year. Maxey would be $44,000,000 (or so) a year for the next 3 years. I still think Kyrie has more value to the Mavs...even at a one to one swap. Plus Maxey is facing less playing time with the addition Jaylen Brown and a fella named Lebron something-or-the-other. Maxey should be volunteering for a trade...
Second: I value the the first and second round picks even more. Why trade off a good, perhaps still great, player and get no more than a bag of chips back? Cuban was a master at trading draft picks for over the hill and/or troublesome players. Something called "keep your powder dry".
Well...I think it's time to keep the powder dry--and use it!
Anyway...I think--oh wait--I have some warnings flashing up on my nuclear power control board. Back lat

Are you Homer Simpson?
I follow your take in general, but I‘d definitely do a one for one swap or add some smaller incentives.
I was actually thinking about what the Sixers might do when the chemistry on the floor isn’t there.
Financially it would need some major magic, but would they give up Edgecombe for some win now players?

Ah...you caught me. I am evil Ho-mer! I am evil Ho-mer! I am evil Ho-mer! Now quiet! They're about to announce the lottery numbers.
I didn't completely reject a one for one swap--just adding those small incentives, such as unprotected 1st round swappish sort of things. I'm tired of the Mavs coming up on the smelly end of the stick on negotiations...a la Luka...

What would be amazing is if the Mavs somehow keep their 2027 1st in that crazy lottery format, they'd go back to having a max of four 1sts and four swaps (though 2028 to OKC and 2030 to SA are hamstrung).
Side tangent:
I'm by no means wishing anything bad happening to Wemby, but after reading Chris Bosh's comments to Wemby about blood clots, I don't take for granted his longterm health. That seems like a scary thing to always have to deal with. Apparently, as an athlete, you get one freebie on dealing with blood clots. But if it happens again, your career is over.

Not much has changed, I'm told, on the Bennedict Mathurin front. Sources say that the restricted free agent's representatives remain engaged with the Pelicans, Bulls, and Bucks, and the door on a return to the Clippers, according to one source briefed on the process, remains open even after LA re-signed Bradley Beal earlier this week.

After agreeing Friday to trade Schröder to Charlotte, Cleveland remains in active search of a trade to send out Max Strus as Strus enters the final year of his current contract at $16.7 million, league sources say.
