Sergio might be the new Ricky Rubio, which is not a bad outcome for a 26th pick.

His handles have been decent today. If kid develops a jumper, look out!

Once again, can't get into the Discord, but someone needs to kick Dova77 in the pants. Dismissing Sergio as garbage/won't get playing time because he can't shoot. It's freaking summer league, ya tool.

He shot over 40% overseas. Just needs to adjust to the slight distance difference and speed up his release. They'll work with him on that.

Should I be as concerned and disappointed as I am with Sergio's bad shooting and lack of offense? You're just not going to get minutes in todays NBA as a guard if you can't score. I don't care how godly his passing is. He needs to be a threat as a scorer and shooter. He's not a scrub but man his offensive ability looks limited asf.

Will playing off the ball more help with this? Will sharing the floor with guys who draw double teams such as Coop and Kai unlock his shooting? Idk man im conflicted about Larry right now and im one of the more positive posters on here you will see lol

I only saw a few minutes.   One of those minutes was the first ally oop from Sergio when he caught the ball in the lane and immediately found the big guy for a dunk.   He just has that feel.   He may be one of the better ally oop players entering the league that I have seen in awhile.   Maybe since Luka/Trae?   He just has that skill.  He also looks really fun to play with.

You are so right. He has no chance of adjusting to the differences of the NBA as opposed to at Barcelona where he scored just fine, since he has such a toiletsville BBIQ. The coaches and his teammates will surely refuse to work with him to improve in those aspects of his game. What a catastrophic waste of a draft pick. Fire M&M, sell the franchise.

I wouldn't think so.  It is such a small sample size.    three games is nothing.   It looks like he shot the ball pretty well overseas.   He will need to keep defenses honest, but I wouldn't be disappointed with a few poor shooting games.  Especially when everything else is passing the eye test.

It's interesting, if you look at his per 36 minutes stats with Liga ACB (which is significantly tougher competition than a power 4 college conference) they are not that different from the guards taken in the lottery.  He scored 19 points with 6 rebounds and over 7 assists per 36.  He took over 6 three pointers and made 41% of them (actually these numbers are very similar to Wagler in addition to being similar in size and athleticism).  Honestly, given the tougher competition and elite size for a PG I'm surprised he didn't get more draft pub.  I definitely wouldn't worry about his shot not falling in the very small sample of summer league.

Didn't get to watch the game. How did Seva look? Seems like he made some shots.

Funny, I said the same about your post!

Sorry if I was over the top. I was annoyed at Dova77, who posted similar ideas on the Discord, but more dismissively and definitively. Point is, Sergio has shown he has one of the highest BBIQs of anyone to set foot in the Mavs practice facility, and scored fine in Europe. He adjusted aspects of his play from game to game in ways that reminded me of Lively's rookie season - both learn about basketball stuff at an exponential rate. He will hit the weight room, and the coaches will work with him. There's ample reason to presume that he'll score just fine in October. Not in a mood to let people snatch despair from the jaws of my joy and hope in what we've seen from him.

Larry took 8 FGAs and made none of his five 3 point attempts.
Bad shooting of course.
But I'd be more concerned if Larry took just 4 shots in 26 minutes of action.
More concerned if went 4 for 4 and didn't want to score more.
This tells me he does not have the reluctance to shoot like Josh Green.
Larry might be leaning towards the pass-first PG archetype, but he still wants to get his.
There is balance to his game.

What concerns me though is ball handling - he has been tested time and again in this past 2 games. There were times when he was shaky, and there were times he gave up the ball quickly to a team mate. Although often, its the right call and that makes up for a faster game as opposed to a PG who runs the length of the court displaying dribbling proficiency, I'm wary of the quality of ball hawks in the NBA and the defensive schemes he would face. It's not he would lose the ball a lot, but the disruption of the offense when the lead guard is taken out of the play. Sergio has been brilliant in a chaotic summer league. His improv works as his elite vision is enough for SL, but in an NBA defensive scheme where the PG is the target, he better have all the tools of a lead guard to get past it.

Nothing that's not fixable, and Sergio looks the part of a cerebral player with a drive to win games. If Cooper can improve his PG skills and his handles, so could Larry who's several notches above Coop when it comes to PG play.

But of course there will be growing pains, and a lot of them too. So hang-on, it's going to get bumpy for now.

I guess the first one is Larry didn't throw the lab high enough on his lob and they talked about it and the next time it was up at 12 like Kao was catching and scoring them and easy dunk .  My thought during the game that Larry and the other euro players work better together and it allows them to work together and that goes for the really late passes near the rim.  I expect that the euros will get used to what the others tend to do and the others will no what to expect out of the euro group.  Lawal looks like he should be in the hunt for one of the 18 roster spots, but he isn't a lock, with so many other really long, quick bigs who can switch on defense and run and dunk.

Crazy how much better the team looks with Larry running things instead of Ryan.

Thanks.  Was talking more about this game.  He seemed really lost/out of place in the first game.  He did start hooping relatively late in life so him being a long term project was a given.

I'm guessing Lawal is a lock (but I could be wrong).  I think the two-ways are going to be Lawal, Seva and somebody else not named Tyler Smith.
