I want to see at least five three point attempts from Ishchenko tonight. Cause so far he looks as good as his highlight tape. The only thing we have not seen is the outside shot, cause nobody passed it to him. Odds wise from a country that size with such a long basketball tradition, they should do better than a Kirilenko or Shved every decade. They are due one.

You would think so, right?

But since they are sending all their young men to their stupid war they are losing a lot of talent, I guess. Second factor is that their state wide systematic doping system blew up a couple of years ago, that also reduces the output of great athletes I guess… Let’s hope we found the one!

Here’s a good cut up of Ish from game 1:

Looking for
1) Sergio to shoot way better,
2) a slightly higher three percentage from Morez,
3) Poulakidas to indicate he still deserves a two-way, which after last game, would require over 50% from three (!),
and most of all,
4) far more involvement for Seva *on the part of his teammates.*

I think Poulikidas is critically in need of a good Summer League given his position with a 2-way.

How do you fix his broken shot though? And he seems to offer nothing but 3 attempts.

Summer league shooting percentage doesn’t correlate too closely with regular season shooting percentage.

I don’t get too excited, or too discouraged this time of year.

My first thought was that getting that jacked (and sore?) and the accompanying weight gain jacked with his shot.

Yeah, summer league really doesn't tell us anything. I saw a clip of Ben Simmons hitting a game winner from his summer league. It was lke a turnaround 3 pointer from above the break. Summer league can be very, very deceiving.

But..I have to admit. I am not a believer in Poulakidis, to this point, even factoring in his performance from last season. I think he belongs on a two way or maybe the end of a roster somewhere, but I kind of don't think it should be here with the other young shooting they've added that I'd prioritize way ahead of him. And, I'd rather have Cisse if it comes right down to it.

I think he is just as much a decent young shooter as the others, but it’s that Sergio and Ish have other skills he can’t compete with. He has to be absolutely dead-eye, as well as showing some rudimentary ability in other parts of his game to keep his two-way, much less make the main roster.

Yeah, I agree. I worded that a little weird, sorry. I was basically just talking about Biberovic with that wording, but to your point there are a ton of young players here to develop all of a sudden, and that was a part of my thinking I didn't express very well.

Things I'll be looking for tonight (or whenever I watch the recording).

The thing I loved about the Morez game the other night was when he took his man off the dribble.  I recall it happening twice.  Once was a straight-line drive to a layup and one resulted in a spin move as he got cut off before he could get to the rim.  This wasn't beating someone flying at him on a closeout.  This was flat out beating his man off the dribble.  Don't get me wrong.  I loved the floater and the touch around the rim and the hands and skill as a roll man.  That stuff was great.

But, I want to see Morez do PF things.  He will be a starter in this league and likely a high level one.  Everyone has a different philosophy, but on a team with a healthy Lively, the highest and best use of Rez is at the four.  It will help in the playoffs that he can play the five, but I want to roll out Lively, Rez, Coop - not next week, but eventually when Rez and Coop have expanded their games to where I think they can take them.  Hitting his three's and creating shots for himself are the threshold skills I'm looking for.  He may have to do center things until they come around, but I believe the PF things are there to be developed.

I was really impressed with Larry's vision and passing touch...really impressed.  I criticized the idea of taking Wagler at nine because I don't think Wagler can take anyone off the dribble.  I don't think Larry is the shooter Wagler is likely to be (though his history says he will be much better than he was in game one).  I'm less worried about the three falling right now.  I want to see him get to the rim using screens - yes.  But also taking his man one-on-one.  He's already shown me he can be a 3rd guard type eventually, or at least a two who can distribute some.  I want to see if he can be a lead guard (or at least enought of one to share creation responsibilities with Flagg).

I didn't expect to be interested in anyone past those two and wasn't particularly impressed with the Russion kid's first half.  But someone on some podcast pointed out that once he found a rhythm, he looked like a different player in the second half.  I hadn't thought of that, but tend to agree.   I think if you get anything out of someone taken that late, you've basically cashed in a lottery ticket.  What I'd like to see is enough potential that he forces the team to give him a two-way.   I think the odds of developing are far greater here than they are as an overseas stash.  Maybe the main thing I want to see is confidence - that he thinks he belongs enought to be unafraid.  I think I saw glimpses, but he didn't really finish his chances that well.  Success often leads to confidence so maybe what I'm looking for is a spark that comes from seeing a few things go right for the young man.

The Russian has game. Think about it. You are 21 years old, leaving your country for the first time, used to playing a completely different style of ball, leaving your family and thrown out into a summer league game vs seasoned veterans. He was able to see the court, get to the rim, rebound with confidence, finish in the paint and pass the ball.

The truth is it is too early to tell. May's strength is getting players into roles they are most comfortable with. We need to see what this kid can do once he settles in and gets a feel for the US style game. We can see that he can move with pace up and down the court and has a lot of size for a guard/wing.

Is anyone else having a tough time finding this game? I thought it was on ESPN, but I can't even find it on the app...or on KFAA.
