It's a dangerous path to specifically go after the Knicks, but it doesn't feel as if they're going anywhere. That is, of course, a similar thought to the way the league felt about the 2025 Thunder, the 2024 Celtics and the 2023 Denver Nuggets. "In the old days, you knew [Larry Bird's] Celtics were at the top and you had to chase them. Then it was Isiah [Thomas] and Detroit. Then Michael [Jordan] and the Bulls," the executive said. "It's not like that anymore. You have to build a sustainable winner that's deep and can play multiple styles of basketball."

Success overseas doesn't always equate to immediate NBA success unless your name is Wemby or Luka. Sasser is more seasoned in the NBA. Pretty sure they'll both compete for minutes, and may the best man win.
I don't disagree, but I think they probably know what they have in Sasser. I'm not sure they know how Segio fits (and plays) in an NBA envrionment. That's why I qualified it with "to start the season". Sergio is a first-round draft pick. They need to find what kind of learning curve he'll need for him to be sucessful.

So I think I trust Stein's reporting, but has there been anyone else besides him commenting on the Sasser trade?

The little right leg kick out worries me a little. How long before we see a defender get under him and roll his ankle. Dort comes to mind.
Also, please tell me he's gonna wear the old-school tall white socks. Walt Williams is the last one I remember doing that.

I do hope they find a place for Cisse. I think both him and Nembhard are great fits for the bench. I think Nemby is a pro player. I am less certain on Cisse but he has shown positive traits. Having two youngsters on minimum contracts (and the ability to extend for more years) at the back of your bench is a good use of your roster imo. Also, with injury concerns at PG and C, it is always nice to have young bodies who can fill in when needed.

Gafford is staying. Lively isn’t even running or jumping yet, when he comes back I’m sure he will be restricted pretty heavily. At this point anything we get out of Lively is just a bonus.

UPDATE: The trade to make him a Maverick is still pending, but league sources say Tarik Biberović has informed Fenerbahçe he’s leaving for the NBA.
After acquiring him from Memphis, Dallas is expected to sign Biberović to a two-year, $6 million deal with a team option in Year 2.

Stein is saying 2-year $6m. Way different than $14m....

It's VetMin money if it's $6m total and not $6m/yr.
The BAE is $5.447m/$5.750850m with a total of $11,227,850

Well…no idea who they’re targeting with the MLE at this point.

That’s much better aligned with actual market value for an unproven Euro vet.

Well, not quite VetMin money. Best guess is that AJ Johnson is the salary match for Sasser (in the bigger trade), which means the BAE exception wasn't used for him, and the $3m/yr can come out of that for Tarik, leaving the full NTMLE intact.

Vet Min is much lower than this for Tarik as he would be Year 0, so about $1.36mm. Something a little over $3.0mm would explain the $2.0mm discrepancy we heard about.
If it comes from the BAE, we not only would still have the full MLE, but we'd be about $16.4mm under the tax and able to use it.

If Kyrie is the starting PG and Sergio is the developmental PG, I see a hole at backup PG. A hole that is much bigger than I would want Marcus Sasser to fill.
edit: forgot about Nembard
Man, this team has a lot of guys but it's really hard to slot them where they're going to play.

We don't need a POA defender?

It was reported from the Turkish outlet that he was making $1.4m with Fenerbahce. We know he owes $1.1m of his own money to pay the $2m buyout. So, he nets ~+$500k to come over here in year 1. ~+$1.6m in year two, if the option is exercised. Much lower than we were thinking. Again, the theme of the off-season.
At $3m/yr instead of $7m/yr, it does tell me he's probably closer to an end of bench guy though. With the potential for more, obviously.

Why would he sign for 3 million per year with a 2 million dollar buy out. Doesn't make sense.
