Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027

The way the summer is shaping up, so far, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn the Mavs checked in at some point with each and every target they consider a shooter.

Yeah, I have already commented on my skepticism regarding that rumor.  My point is more general.  I just hope they are not targeting guys like that.  Older one dimensional players at a position that is already way overloaded.

PJ for Cam saves the Nuggets $3.2m

Klay for Cam saves the Nuggets $5.6m

Gafford for Cam saves the Nuggets $5.8m

I have no trouble believing Dallas would do ANY of these deals. Johnson is another great fit with Flagg, imho.

I have no clue why Denver would do any of them, sadly.

League sources tell @TheSteinLine that Rui Hachimura prioritized staying in Los Angeles and chose the Clippers over interest from Brooklyn and Dallas as well as interest we previously reported from Golden State/Minnesota.

Stein on DLLS just now "the reporting is that the Mavs joined the chase in the later stages"

I sense that you're putting this forward somewhat sarcastically, but I actually think the logic is correct. To be clear, I'm sure "linked to" and "interested in" are very relative...but, it really does seem like the new front office identified shooting as an area of much needed improvement, and that's obviously the overtly correct mission for them to undertake, even if we end up being underwhelmed with their execution of it.

IF that's true...I'd say they're looking for places to park salary that they don't believe fits with Flagg. There are literally only two long-term contracts on the books right now that could possibly be of concern (well, three, if you count Martin, but I don't think there's any hope of trading him right now).

If true, that is weird.

We don't have the full picture but adding "3" power forwards before trading one was not on my bingo card.    I guess you could count one of their new two ways as a PF too.

I'm going to wait until everything is done before passing judgement, but this is getting curiouser and curiouser.

Johnson, I think, is being looked at as a center, mostly, so I'm not worried so much about him. But the others...

I wonder if Kuminga is a target?  In theory, he shouldn't be but if they are looking to add talent you could probably get him as a 1 plus 1.

But the "reporting" comes after the fact.  This would hold more water had it been reported before the Clippers signed him.

Another forward?

I'm not saying it's not possible, but I'd have no interest.

4 if you count Naji's extension? Speaking of... what do we think that looks like now after seeing all the FA deals? Almost everyone received less than I thought they would. With nearly every single one of them being only 2-year deals. Most with options in the second year.

Somewhat sarcastic, maybe. I'm one of the few here that believe the NBA coaches/front office folks that say the NBA is positionless basketball. I don't want to debate that again. However, when I make points here, it gets repetitive and the pushback is the same, but my pov is unchanged. Same for Flagg and how I view his 'function' on the basketball court as an initiator on offense. What people have now labeled as Point-Forward.

Do I think it will look beautiful next season, if this is pretty much the final roster, no - not really. I think Flagg still has some development there and it will probably take at least another full season for him to reach the level of initiator/playmaker/shot maker that he'll eventually become.

As for the adding shooting part, I think you've been on it all along. They have clearly identified that as the number one priority this transaction cycle. Rightfully so IMO.

This is why I brought him up yesterday. We all knew this was coming.

To be clear, I wouldn't target DeRozan, but I do think he's a fit for some of what's missing on the roster.

Let's not quibble about timelines.

People still don’t get it. M&M’s poop may not not stink, but what it reliably doesn’t do is leak.

BREAKING!

According to @Eurohoopsnet sources, Fenerbahçe star Tarık Biberović has reached an agreement with the Dallas Mavericks on contract terms.

The sharpshooter is expected to sign a multi year deal and continue his career in the NBA. Fenerbahçe will receive a buyout fee following Biberović's move to Dallas.

I hope this is true, but...

...if it is true, that could mean that the "other" player they were linked to that was holding this up might have been Rui Hachimura, and...my brain doesn't know how to reconcile itself with that possibility.

The Mavericks will soon officially acquire the draft rights to Tarik Biberović via trade and @TheSteinLinehas learned that the NBA out in the sharpshooter's contract with Turkish club Fenerbahçe expires July 7, meaning a resolution on his playing status next season is imminent.

My attitude is not sweat the rumors.  More focused on what is actually done because that is the only thing we will ever really know.
