Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
(07-01-2026, 11:58 AM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: For those who are whinging, I am still hoping to get Monk in trade, or sign Simons.

We haven’t seen the finished product yet. If the offseason consists of the draft, trading for Sasser, and nothing else, well, yeah, then I’ll be a bit salty.

Not me. My only requirement to feel good about this summer is that every move makes things BETTER in the long term. Short term improvements are fine, too, OBVIOUSLY, but not if they make things worse in the long term.

So far, I’m fine with everything, including the assumed Sasser acquisition.

I did say, “a bit.”

EDIT: I’m dumb, sorry. I read your post as “I’d say…” in my brain head.

It will be very funny if the Mavs will end ahead of them.

Zero chance of the Mavs being better than the Lakers next year. Lakers will be contenders. I doubt they can get out of the West, but they will be a top 4 seed and if Luka gets hot, anything is possible in a playoff series.

I mean, banking on a healthy Kyrie, significantly improved Cooper year 2 maybe gets us a play in spot? I’m sure Masai has deals he will make, probably got to wait on the whole Jaylen Brown and LeBron situations.

Are you saying I’m doing a bit? I’m not! I’m team “slow build.”

No, dude, I said I’d be “a bit salty” if this was all they did.

Hard to believe you’d be satisfied with that as the complete offseason given your drum-beating about the need for creation, unless you think Larry and Ishy are going to be all star phenoms from the get-go.

Issue is, Lakers have 2 terrible defenders in Luka and Reaves. It’s hard enough for teams to cover up one negative defender (Knicks managed), let alone 2. Kessler will help on the back end but the only guy who could truly cover for those 2 is probably Wemby.

Exactly - a fully fit Luka can be a game changer in any series. Could for example get Wemby in foul trouble every single game when they switch him. And can bully Castle in the post as well or shoot over him.

But that’s the big question, if he stays healthy throughout a postseason.

Yeah, I misread you. I edited my post, but not fast enough.

I still think they need lots of creation and lots of shooting, it’s just that I have no expectation for them to be good this year, so I’m not in any huge rush. If they are good this year, great! But, I am fine with not giving out bad contracts or making bad trades to try to chase some W/L record.

Nothing but good moves for a while, and this thing will start to look a lot better really quickly.

To be fair. AD refusing to be a full time center shows why he shouldn't be involved in roster building decisions. Always been better when he played in single big lineups. Just not willing to do the dirty work.

Yeah, I call complete BS on the idea of a team with nearly non-existent D being a contender.

My dark horse candidate is gone....

@ShamsCharania
Guard Alijah Martin has agreed to a two-year, $4.8 million deal to return to the Toronto Raptors, sources tell ESPN. Martin was a second-round pick to Toronto in 2025 and enters a multiyear deal after the team and his agents, Todd Ramasar and Jaafar Choufani of Life Sports Agency…

Extra points for use of the term "whinging"!

I'm glad you see the vision. We love our Sassers in blue (but will still be opportunistic).

Played for May at FAU. Masai drafted him last year with TOR. Was a standout in the G-league. I was just piecing things together there is all..

So am I to glean from this that you actively follow both college basketball and the G-league?! Even more respect.

College basketball, yes. G-league, no. Google helped with that part.

Easy decision to give up 10 mil now to be in a better spot. Young players are playing for their next 2-3 contracts too. More featured and better stats for 10 mil less now could mean much more money later.
