I struggle with the idea of giving either of them extensions. I'm tempted to say "wait and see" on Christie, but if he has a great season, we might wish they'd gotten him pinned down this summer, I suppose.

An extension around the MLE is a no-brainer to me. I struggle with the Naji one a lot.

Max: 4/$72m ?
Naji: 4/$60m ?

More? Less?

I'm not interested in either at those prices. I think that money should be spent more wisely. If Naji could shoot the 3, I'd be ok with his numbers. Max doesn't deserve anywhere near that kinda money imo. He's a nice shooter, but doesn't light it up ppg wise. He averaged 12 ppg while pretty much having the green light at all times. 4/50 on Max is all I think he's worth. Maybe 4/48 on Naji. I won't be upset if we lost either, but I like both players.

Free agent forward Dean Wade has agreed to a four-year, $39 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN. Several contenders pursued the former Cavaliers forward, who has become an indispensable defending and shooting frontcourt piece

I get it but I don’t think people realize an MLE contract is 4/$65m these days…

I didn't realize it was that high, but I still don't think they are worth that. I would rather keep Max of the 2 players due to his youth and upside. 4/55 possibly. I just can't get there on 4/65..lol

I was thinking 3/36 for Naji and a half eaten hamburger for Max.

I think I’d do that for Naji. I think he’d still have value on that deal. Even after regressing to the mean, after a high usage season in a tank year.

He'd be better off just telling us we're in a rebuild.  Which, I'm fine with because it's reality.  But the Mavs are nowhere near being a contender.

Patience grasshopper. The Mavs have more talent than you think. Who can they possibly acquire through free agency that will make the contenders?

No one.

Coaching, style, buy-in, development, scouting and health will make them contenders soon enough.

They’ll be acquisitions along the way, but they don’t need to be splashy.

When I first saw the Robert Williams signing I thought it was a bad omen for Schmitz's evaluation of Yang Hansen.  But the third year is non-guaranteed and the second year is only $2mm guaranteed.  So, only $19mm of the $44mm is guaranteed.

Significantly more than vet min.

But the tax-MLE is 6mil. Which still doesnt line up and I thought needs to be at least 2 years long.

The THJ 6.5M is more than (in round numbers) TxMLE (6) and BAE (5.5). It has to either be part of big MLE, or a SNT unless the numbers are being very sloppily reported..

It's a point very well taken, and there's a world in which that ends up being a steal for Christie.

But, and this is coming from someone who has literally never complained about him, even a little bit...once he's inked for years, even at MLE money, expectations get a little more real. I wouldn't want to be the one deciding this, personally. Not before I saw him for a full 2nd year as a starter, at least.

I'd guess the median salary is a lot lower. Deals like that for role players are going to be hard to move down the road.

Also...is it just me, or is this the worst first day of free agency EVER??!

Debates on fair extension prices for Christie and Marshall weren't on my bingo card for the first 24 hours of this thing.

Report: Pistons will match any offer

Reality: There will be no offers

Also: Duren doesnt want the Pistons offer because he wants the Kings offer but they have no cap space

Conclusion: take the Pistons offer or sign the qualifying
14x All-Star, 12x all-NBA, 1x MVP, 1x Finals MVP, 1 NBA Championship: Dirk Nowitzki, the man, the myth, the legend.
