Mike Schmitz had traveled to Russia several times to scout Vsevolod Ishchenko. There were rumors the Mavericks had made him a draft promise.

That´s what I was wondering and no disrespect to Derrick White, but he´s not the 2nd best player on a title team. Are they thinking White, Tatum and Kessler/Gobert make them a legit title contender. Brown must be a total pain in the ass about being the #1 guy.
Damn Lakers took Ishchenko. That´s nice for them. He can take over from Luka in two years.

Surely that means the Lakers will be fined harshly for tampering, but explains their behaviour tonight.I have been saying they will know already on draft night whether they have Robinson or not. The teams are still all tampering, just nobody as dumb as Cuban. Maybe that means the Mavs also have the MLE guard in the bag already.

Even accounting for the Russia thing and their ongoing ban from Euro League that limits the exposure, I look at Ishchenko´s stats, accolades and the highlights and I´m absolutely bewildered how he dropped to #56. He´s athletic, the highlight reel is a total package of ball handling, decision-making, lob passes, 3pt shooting, defensive awareness, footwork and vertical blocks, athletic dunks. That VTB league is still pretty strong, even if it´s only 10 teams and they were the 2nd best team; only team to win a play-off game against the CSKA juggernaut. It says he was an All-Star selection and ROTY. I think they got a HUGE steal with this kid. Gives me Andrei Kirilenko vibes based obviously on limited evidence.

Yeah, I said yesterday Morez does not feel like a Schmidt pick.  He likes skilled guys.  He picked Yang Hansen for God's sake.
