He was one of the highest-paid coaches in the Big Ten, maybe in the country. So, I'm sure he's getting a nice bump to go to the NBA.

BREAKING: I am being told that Dusty May is allegedly the first to “jump ship” as the NCAA prepares to present the university with a Notice of Allegation (NOA) related to a 2025 tampering scandal with possible vacated wins.

Well, I'm the first to admit I don't follow the college game, so no idea if this guy can coach. My initial feeling is one of disappointment, but I'm going to give it an open mind. It's not lost on me that he's a top college guy and very successful - I understand that this is an impressive hire in terms of likelihood. Time for me to do a deep dive on who Dusty May is, but in the meantime, here are my initial thoughts:

He seems to be at an energetic age, and everyone here goes out of their way to note how hard Michigan plays. I'm going to assume he's a good motivator, and hopefully good at the relationships part of the job (Kidd's one and only strong suit).

I suuuuuuure hope he's up on what works, offensively, IN THE NBA, and that we're not about to have to watch more two-big basketball.

I could be wrong, but this hire screams "slow play" to me. This is the move of a franchise ready to be patient, even with a coach learning the league. I like it in that sense.

Not what I meant by "slow play." I should've said "slow build." We've been debating the merits of individual moves around here all summer related to age, benefits in the short term vs. long, etc. 

But, I HATE teams that PLAY slow, too, since you bring it up. From what I gather, May's Michigan team did not, so that's good.

One source very close to Dusty May on the main reason(s) he left Michigan for the NBA: 

1) "The state of college basketball and not knowing what it's going to look like tomorrow, in a month or in 5 years." 

2) "The organization and the chance to coach Cooper Flagg."

What does that even mean? Mavs often played washed veterans around Dirk thinking they were better than rookies, but ultimately the rookies proved to be better already (Justin Anderson/Dwight Powell/Jae Crowder) and it was not because of some amazing skills, but just because they played much harder on both ends than lazy has beens like Williams, Jefferson or Dalembert. 

This Mavs team will try to win next season, and do so while integrating 2-3 rookies into their main rotation. We won´t slow play anything, but we need to smart play.
