MAVS NEWS:
(04-12-2026, 12:07 PM)Dirknows Wrote: Flagg gets all the opportunity to take shots, facilitate, drive the ball. Kon is great in his role, moves around a ton on offense, rebounds and facilitates pretty good, is an OK defender. Cooper is just on a terrible team so he’s gonna have the better counting numbers. Here’s an interesting thought, if Harper was in a situation like Cooper how would his numbers look? 20 and 8 assists? Gonna be interesting to see who gets the award but I can’t fault someone for voting for Kon as he’s played a big role in charlottes turnaround.

No. Harper would not have had multiple 40+ point games. Cooper had to do everything himself. Harper or Kon on the Mavs? NEITHER would have had as good of numbers as Coop.

Poulakidis is really that guy. After all these years, the Mavs finally have a home-grown elite shooter on their team...this is beautiful  Smile

AJ Johnson has missed him for 3 or 4 looks in the 4th quarter and it's starting to rustle my jimmies.

This nightmare season is finally over. Ugh! Being a Mavs fan is becoming less fun and more grind. Here’s to hoping the GM hire is a good one. A bonus would be some more lotto luck. Either way, Flagg is a future league MVP, so at least there’s some hope for much better days. Wish we could fast forward.

Had a block and steal.... and only 1 TO in 28 mins.

So hopefully, we will continue seeing this guy in some capacity.

Well said.  I really hoped I would enjoy Mavs basketball this year.   Cooper made it at least interesting, but this was another brutal year.  I hope it is the last time we see this type of performance.   I just want to see meaningful basketball games again.   Not have a team think they can show up and play their C game and get a win against you.

Really sucks he left the game and couldn’t drop the 40 point double double he was gonna get. Think Kon takes home ROTY now.

Not going to lie, I liked the Klay and Middleton experience.  A lot will be determined by the draft pick, but I think both are good, solid players still.    I think I would prefer Middleton over Bagley, If I had to choose.

With Cooper though Klay, Middleton, Marshall, PJ seems like one too many.   So it may be a little difficult.    Neither Klay or Middleton will probably still be around if we are hopefully a contender again.  Although, I am in favor of having good, smart players throughout the roster.   I think their size and shooting are welcome additions.

I'd take Klay over Middleton, but that's mostly due to being loyal to Klay who's been a good soldier and great teammate in the basketball hell he finds himself in.  I'd try to do right by him this summer based on his wishes to stay or be traded (if a suitable partner can be found).  If Klay wants out and we can find a deal, I wouldn't mind Middleton as an alternative.  I don't really want both of them on the team though.

I think it's time to say goodbye to Diamond and put Cisse in that role.  Cisse isn't as steady but is the better rebounder and plays better defense.

I'd like to keep Bagley around.  I was pretty down on him at the TDL, but I think he can be a useful bench piece and considering the health issues of Gafford/Lively, he can soak up minutes.

I've come around on BWill and Nembhard as the 3rd PG on the team, I'm just not sure you need both of them.  BWill has an elite skill, better offensively even if his 3PT % is bad.  Nembhard is the better assist maker.  Both are terrible on D.  I guess it will come down to roster spots.

I'm mostly out on Smith/Johnson.

I hope we trade Christie and Christie.  I wouldn't be upset if we did the same with Gafford and Lively.

I want to see more of Poulakidas, but the early impressions are very impressive.

We are stuck with Martin.

Marshall and Flagg are untouchable.  Kyrie too unless he wants to be traded.

I can confirm the ESPN report that the Mavericks are parting ways with director of health and performance Johann Bilsborough after two seasons. Jason Kidd made several comments last night about the need to be healthier next season.

Great.  Money Whip Casey Smith.  Dirk is back and the bad man (one of them) is gone.   NYC is a lot of fun but it can grow old.  I am sure he still has a house back in TX.

Don't skimp on the training staff.  It can show huge value in an ultracompetitive league.

Let the money whipping begin!

Start the money whipping with Casey Smith, then move on to Presti, then on to a new head coach.

Mavs should have an enjoyable summer league team. I assume Cisse, John P, Nembhard (maybe) and Tyler smith all play at least some in summer league. Add three draft picks and it may be a fun watch.

Speaking of two ways, I think this year has been the best year for the Mavs. Who knows if any stick but a really nice job by someone on the Mavs.

Nico, Kidd, Finley, Riccardi.

Hiring someone outside the organization to lead the hunt for a new GM, seems like logical plan.  I just don't know how you can really try to fill this position internal and I like the approach the Dolphins are doing by having Troy Aikman involved.  I don't see how the owners would want Cuban involved after is recent comments and Kidd who is rumored to be interested in the job can't be involved and that goes for the Co GMs.  I wonder if they could hire Bob Myers who appears to not want the job or someone else like him to look for possible candidates and then to interview them and finally forward a ranked list to the owners for their review and to deal with the contract.
I would want the outside person to have detailed talks on how the new GM sees the Mavs now as an offense and defense, the players and discuss if they feel which players fit new candidates vision and get his feel on if it would work with Kidd coaching style.  I would want them to give a general time line on where they see the team going and how he is going to make it happen.  I do wonder if they will fudge on their thoughts on Kidd and his get  a shot in 8 seconds and the need for lots of 3s and very little player movement and plays and really no effort to feed a player in the lane as an option other than a lob pass.
Mavs need to be ready before draft night on what direction the Mavs will head and a plan or plans in place for trades and movement in the weeks too follow, if not the 90's Mavs will be back.

I am not sure if either are back, but if you could pick 1 who would you want on a two way:  AJ Johnson or Tyler Smith?  Both are similar in age.  Both didn't have a lot of reps of important basketball prior to their draft.    AJ is a guard who has some wiggle but has no idea how to play.    I was not impressed with Smith but the TV crew on the last game was talking how nice his shot looked and he went out and made several threes.   He is a wing.  Probably more of a 4 than a 3 at this stage.

What are the thoughts on John P?  I have been surprised how big he looks.   He looks a legit 6'5-6'6 with a plus wingspan.   Typically for a guy from an Ivy who went undrafted, I would think those guys are closer to 6'3ish.  John P looks legit good sized.    The said on the TV that he is signed for a two way next year.   The mavs could get out of that, but if true it would make sense to bring him back as a two way and see how he continues to develop.

I'm not sure Tyler can stick around. I'm absolutely sure AJ Johnson can't.

Poulikadas will stick around. At least a two-way. I suspect they like what they've seen in scrimmages and games. He's had more minutes than most other players the Mavs have picked up at that level.
