Plus, let's not get it twisted. The Hornets aren't exactly the '86 Boston Celtics. They're currently fighting for a spot in the Play-in

It would be just as easy to discredit Cooper's numbers as putting up numbers on a team lacking talent which gives him more opportunity to put up stats.  The reality is that both are having great rookie campaigns and didn't pick the team and thus the situation they find themselves in.

Cooper is either the ROY or there is some serious Dallas hate for getting him around the league and that is how I would read that.

Damn when Cooper gets Kyrie and Lively back healthy we got some star cornerstones right there. You draft right and get 3 decent picks at PG wing and Center you could fill 1 or 2 stars and at least one decent role player long term. We may see guys signed to 2 ways among the undrafted in this draft that will be better than what we had this year. With our first 2 picks I think we need to add major talent at the 3 pointer and there is one Center that is a true 7' 3 point sharpshooter Henri Veesar and I would not mind taking him at 30 instead of another 3 and D wing if he is there. We have some good wings already in Cooper PJ Naji and Klay. You add in 2 40% plus 3 point shooters in the first 2 picks and this teams offense will be back to being scarry and impressive. Kyrie 40%, pick #1 40% pick #2 40% then if Cooper turns it on and you resign Bagley he is 40% plus and leading the team in 3 point % now add in Max at over 40% and that is some serious 3 point shooting prowess and we are instantly returned to a great shooting offensive powerhouse top tier solid DEEP AF 3 point shooting threat stacked team. It would be nice if over the offseason B Will learns to hit at 40% again and ditto Ryan. Somehow we need to dump off the dead weight we got stuck with. Guys like AJ & Martin who actually is not that bad shooting at 36% on 3's is solid for how he has been used. I think if we can use Bagley and Cooper at PF maybe PJ and Naji take care of SF enough to not need anyone else. If Say we added Wag with our first Veesar using the 2nd pick and Krivas at 50 that to me would supercharge this teams offense and defense both. It would be nice to get Peterson instead of Wagler but we can't be too greedy.

PG Kyrie Wagler B WILL Ryan
SG Wagler Max Klay Middleton
SF PJ Cooper Naji Middleton if Middleton signs elsewhere we can keep Martin here at 3rd string.
PF Cooper Veesar Bagley PJ
C Lively Gafford Krivas

Got to get someone to take AJ and maybe Martin off our hands if we intend to keep Ryan and Middleton.

Flagg has been good for a rookie, but not exceptional, about average as an NBA player overall. TS% 54.5% (gross), PER 17 (not bad), BPM 1 (meh), WS/48 .07 (.1 is solid, .07 is below average).  The on off stuff seems pretty average. He’s showed talent and flashes enough to believe in him for sure, but it’s not really historic and not good enough for ROY this season.

Flagg started slowly. Then had an amazing stretch of 20-30 games where we all now believe he's that dude going forward. Then he got injured and has come back for a tanking team and been mediocre.

Taking the whole season into consideration, Kon should be the clear favorite for ROY. This isn't the who is going to be the best player in their prime award.

He does need to get his game back on track last few games were tankers that got mailed in. I am concerned that the tanking is causing him to be affected. We are going to get a good player and we are not going to need to purposely tank so he should be exerting maximum effort every game the rest of the team will drag it down to loserville for him so he has to play with more sense of urgency and ignore that the tank is happening. He needs to set personal goals of 30 plus points and start getting some triple doubles. He needs to hold off on 3 pointers till he is hitting them better and just attack the basket or pass to guys that are open for an easy assist. I would camp out around the rim to get rebounds and set screens for others so he can get to triple double stats and put this ROY race on ice.

Mavs are playing a really good Clipps team tonight who have struggled recently (against not-so-good teams, even) because Kawhi has been dinged up. Came into tonight's game on a 4-game losing streak - including vs SAC and 2 vs NO. Fortunately Kawhi is back, but he's a tad limited and they aren't yet playing great again. Not a good time for the tank, for the Clipps to be struggling when they catch the Mavs.

Hoping for the best, but it's about even after 3. Bummer.

Unlike Nico, DJJ is a MFFL. You all better apologize to Gafford, PJ and the whole they washed and can´t play with Flagg before they ruin the tank.

They´ll need to finally give Johnson, Cisse and all their two way guys a major run or it´s an easy win against the Warriors.

Well Flagg's three is definitely something he needs to work on this summer.   Both getting more up, having your feet ready and making more.

I also think his mid range game needs to become a weapons.  Ramming his head into the rim every time is not a sustainable 15 year plan.  There are times to attack the rim and he will get more foul calls in the future, but the mid range pull up needs to become a weapon for him.

At this point, it's Kon's award to lose. CF has had a great season, but it's been inconsistent. Charlotte is having a season nobody expected, and Kon has been a huge part of it. To lead the league in made 3 pointers as a rookie, just about sealed it.

If that's true, then hopefully CF will eventually be able to say "Don't care, went to more All-Star games, made more All-NBA teams, won a championship first and made the HOF first."

I think Kon has ROY wrapped up and deservedly so. That's not a knock on Cooper, but Kon has had the better year and contributed to winning on top of that. Cooper just hasn't been the same since since his injury. I just hope that "injury" was legit or he's going to hold some remorse towards the Mavs. He was well on his way to ROY pre injury.

I think it’s fitting for the 4th ever Co-ROY winner(s) this season. The last one was too long ago.

Tonight’s game is super danger for the Mavs. It will take a lot of effort to lose imo.

Mavs with 23 wins, with Sacramento’s win last night they have 19. Mavs won’t be able to catch them but Utah has 21 wins. They may make a run there.

Yeah, I've circled the Warriors game as a win (lose) for the Mavs for a few weeks. GS has been injured and, since they are basically mathematically already locked into a play-in slot, they're just playing out the string.  If the Mavs could somehow lose, it will really set them up as the only winnable games I see left this Warriors game, Milwaukee (though on the second of a back to back) and the Bulls on the final game.

And, yeah, the Kings have really come on lately.  If the season was ten games longer I think they'd pass the Mavs.

The NBA Rookie of the Year race is tightening up, but don't get it twisted: the numbers still point to Cooper Flagg being the best player in this class.

Here's @bdameris with the definitive case on why Flagg should go home with the trophy.

I can't remember where I read it, but there will be no Co-winners for any awards anymore. J Kidd and G Hill will be the last, and that was over 30 yrs ago.

I believe back then, a vote was all or nothing and Kidd/Hill had equal votes which produced co-winners.  The voting system has changed where the 100 writers pick three candidates and rank them which gives different point values (5-3-1).  So I believe a tie is possible, just highly improbable.
