The Naji/Cooper tandem worked incredibly well last night. Naji carried the team until Cooper found his groove and still contributed with scoring and getting the ball up the court once Cooper got hot. He's not without his warts, but he can do a little bit of everything. We've long bemoaned role players that can't get their own quality looks and when we do have one, want to trade him away for "fit" reasons. Further, the dude wants to be here and that should not be taken for granted. As long as his contract demands aren't ridiculous, I hope a Mavs jersey is the last one he wears.

For people who care about these things, with AD gone, we are down to Gafford and Lively being our only remaining Klutch players. I wonder how smoothly the Lively extension negotiations are going to be if Paul and AD really aren’t happy about the trade to the Wiz.
Bagley and Middleton are Excel clients. Jones (and Max Christie and PJ) are represented by Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Management. Those three and Tyus’s brother are pretty much his entire client base. Bradbury was with Duffy for years before branching out on his own. AJ Johnson is represented by Duffy. I love Lively's basketball character and like his upside, but I'd hate to sign him unless it is a sweetheart deal for the Mavs. He makes AD look like an ironman and we haven't seen him expand partially because of his lack of availability. The negotiations would be simple, take the club option, see if he has any suitors next year before the TDL, and if not, let the year play out. If he gets a big offer from some other team after that, wish him good luck and good heath.

I don't think Lively should be resigned unless it's at a very reasonable rate. He's a younger Street Clothes at this point. He has a lot of upside and great character, but he's never available. Maybe a one year deal if they want to pay him and see how it goes, but I'm completely against a 4 or 5 year deal at large money. I know some will disagree, but you can only pay for potential for so long. He needs to be active. If he wants 10 mil per year or anywhere near that, he needs to find a new team imo. I agree with the point you're making. Not sure if I agree that $10M is too much for Lively though. $10M seems like a reasonable amount, while considering his unavailability so far.

I think you still put too much emphasis on the agent affiliation. The agency can obviously try to influence their client, but at the end of the day, they still work for the player. The player makes the final decision. If the Mavs want Lively to be here and Lively wants to be here, he´ll be here. He´s still a RFA. Also why would Paul be unhappy about this trade. He can now get Lively paid in Dallas and AD in Washington, instead of having three clients looking for one spot in the same place. I guarantee you Paul does not give a flying f*** where AD was traded. He wanted to secure an extension for his client, which obviously is not happening anywhere and who cares that AD is unhappy. I doubt that anyway. He does not love basketball enough to be unhappy about that. He´s probably more upset that he once again has to find new golf courses and the weather for golf in Washington is not as nice as it was in LA, Dallas or New Orleans.

@TheSteinLine
BREAKING: An unidentified Dallas investor group is interested in partnering with Mark Cuban to buy the Mavericks back from Patrick Dumont, @TheSteinLine has learned. A source close to Dumont told me “the family remains excited about the future of the franchise and the Cooper Flagg era.”

Casino gambling is going to fail to pass, yet again, in the Texas Legislature’s upcoming January-May 2027 session. At some point don’t the Adelsons give up on the casino-resort-arena plan? Moreover, if they sell their interest in the Mavs, the Adelsons can participate in the NBA’s expansion franchise in their actual hometown, Las Vegas. Sell the team and head back to the gaming-friendly desert!

Oh god please let it happen
I will never bitch about Cuban again. The Dumont / Adelscum clan is the worst of the worst & as long as they are around following the Mavs will always feel wrong. And if they're only here for the gambling, then by all means sell it to someone who cares. On the other hand, Cuban is guy that hired Nico and sold it to the Dumont's in the first place. Must.... remain..... calm.

I thought it would be nice to have a new arena and resort but Dumont and Adelson made me hate casinos. Also, I am showing great discipline by not sharing what I think is the entire story. I don't have any empirical evidence.

I'd rather have Mark Cuban own the team again.

This seems like a "weird" idea to leak to the public. Cuban is a minority investor who has just been given a seat back at the table to have some input in decisions, maybe. And now this?
I don't have any trust in Cuban to rule out this is some sort of bizarre attempted negotiating tactic by him. But him buying back in makes no sense to me (unless Dumont-etc actually do want out). And I am not convinced Cuban's reign as owner was all that great in the decision-making either, so I'm not convinced this has any real benefit to Mavs fans no matter where it goes. One benefit gained by Dumont was he had the deep pockets that Cuban lacked, and I sure don't want that cheapness in charge again. My guess is that the Dumont's have determined gambling will not get passed in the Texas legislature. If they have decided to get out of the league and sell the team, then it's likely Cuban and the Dumont's have had ongoing discussions. Probably neither side wanted that leaked, but I can't imagine how this makes sense otherwise.

The local investment group backing Cuban has deep pockets according to 96.7.
eta: Now hearing investment group includes Ross Perot Jr./Hillwood.
