Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST
Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania)
The Brooklyn Nets are waiving Cam Thomas, allowing the scoring guard to enter free agency, sources tell ESPN. The Nets made the decision to allow Thomas to find a new home.

I'm stunned they preferred to send two firsts + Mathurin for Zubac instead of Gafford for Mathurin straight up.  I wonder if the Mavs got a little greedy on this one.

Kinda shocking honestly.

He is one of the purest scorers in the league and that basically means nothing anymore.

Cam Thomas' trajectory sure is a weird one.

I'm sure he'll have plenty of interest. The core issue is his contract. He was a RFA and took the QO instead of whatever Brooklyn offered. That also means that he had veto power over a trade, and wouldn't have Bird rights with a new team anyway, so there was zero reason for anyone to offer something for him.

Although Zubac is a much better player than Gafford, I do agree Indy paid a very steep price. It could really bite them if they don't get the top four pick.

Another interesting thing. Indy is projected to be a couple of million in tax in the summer. If they get that pick, it will rise to over 10 million. This would probably make Toppin available for salary relief

Irving/X/X
Christie/Thompson/Johnson
Marshall/Martin/X
Flagg/Washington/Bagley
Lively/Gafford/Cisse

MLE + two 1st round picks.

I think the final roster configuration will heavily depend on the 1st round picks and the Mavs expect to take a guard (Wagler/Brown/Philon/Mullins). That could explain Jones. They operate under the assumption they get a PG/SG in the draft and let Jones go. OR they get into top 4, take a non-guard and then keep Jones.

One of Sexton, Simons, White for the MLE to spare Kyrie during the regular season seems a reasonable path.

I still feel like one of Naji or PJ should be moved, guess that'll depend on where we land in the lottery and what we decide to go positionally.

Maybe they brought in Tyus Jones to raise Gafford value. he is considered a very good P&R PG.

If we get Boozer/Wilson you have to move on from one, but otherwise I´d keep Flagg/Washington/Lively/Gafford/Bagley as the PF/C rotation.

Flagg 35 minutes
Washington 28 minutes
Lively 22 minutes
Gafford 11 minutes
Bagley/Cisse emergency cover

If Lively goes wrong you suddenly have a big gap in the middle, if you trade Gafford or Washington.

I think Thompson is the most likely to be traded now. Marshall has the starting SF spot on lockdown for now. The Mavs draft pick will likely be top 4 in the depth chart rotation from PG to SF behind Irving, Christie and Marshall. 17M for an underperforming old 5th or 6th guard makes no sense.

Conley was waived and I am pretty sure he is going back to Minny

I also expect Lakers will waive Kleber and find a better player on a buyout market. I don't think Maxi is NBA player anymore

A little disappointed we didn't do more to make this team a little worse. Maybe the opportunity just wasn't there. I'd love to kick the Cam Thomas tire but those goes against my previous sentiment.

Kind of sad his body betrayed him. A great Mav.

Yes it is, because Chicago got him from Minny and than traded him to Charlotte, who has now waived him

Unless he was traded twice I believe he cannot go back to Minny.

I mentioned that earlier. With Okongwu and Landale, they're set at center.
