@BrettSiegelNBA
The Heat, who league sources indicate are no longer at the forefront of Giannis trade talks before Thursday's deadline, are attempting to trade for Grizzlies' Ja Morant, sources told @ClutchPoints. There is a belief the Heat can pull off a Trae Young-like deal for Morant.

Don't remember who posted it, but I like the idea now of holding AD until the summer and, when Lebron ultimately signs with the Cavs for his gross "farewell tour" (he's a plague that will never leave us), leveraging that to extract maximum assets from them while they're drunk with giving him "his team".
AD for either Mobley or tons of future pics. Either way, it would set up the Mavs way better than just getting expirings + something less than ideal. Can you imagine Lebron putting a gun to Gilbert's head and saying "I want my farewell tour in Cleveland. Trade Mitchell for AD and Kyrie."

Idk what they’ll do with Ja but it seems like they’re the perfect team to take on the Poeltl contract ($19.5M) in a potential Sabonis/AD trade. @MikeAScotto Domantas Sabonis trade talks between the Kings and Raptors, which would include RJ Barrett and Ochai Agbaji to Sacramento, have paused. Toronto is concerned about giving up too much first-round draft pick compensation to move Jakob Poeltl to a third team. Reporting on @YESNetwork

What’s hilarious is that Kyrie is coming back next year and him and Cooper and AD are going to make the Mavs contenders and this thread will wind up being the dumbest one in the history of sports forums.
Historians will read all the crying and hand wringing and capitulation and write textbooks for future generations about how pathetic some cultures were in 2026.

Kyrie coming back could be good, you never know how a 34 year old will be after a torn ACL, but he can still shoot so that's a plus. The issue with AD is he wants to play the 4, which is not where he should be at given the current state of our roster and he's a minimal perimeter threat, this killing spacing if we run out Cooper-AD-Lively because Coop needs room to operate to get to the rim, hard to do when defenses will just sag off AD and crowd the paint since Lively will already be there too.

I will be ecstatic if that happens and they are legit contenders. I'm simply not holding my breath for AD and Kyrie to be on the court for 60+ games together, let alone an extended playoff run. Maybe it works for one year, but it's certainly not a multi-year window of competitiveness.

TMac's latest:
The Dallas Mavericks' most active trade discussions involving Anthony Davis are with the Toronto Raptors as of Wednesday afternoon, but no deal is imminent, sources told ESPN. Mavs governor Patrick Dumont has continued to emphasize internally that he does not feel pressure to trade Davis before Thursday's NBA trade deadline, sources said. The Mavs have been exploring the market for the 32-year-old Davis since former general manger Nico Harrison was fired in early November, a decision Dumont made in large part due to the fan backlash from last year's trade that sent perennial MVP candidate Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for a package headlined by Davis. Interim co-GMs Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi are running the Mavs' basketball operations department while ownership vets potential candidates in the search for Harrison's permanent replacement. The Mavs have also engaged in discussions with multiple teams about center Daniel Gafford, sources said. The Raptors and Atlanta Hawks are the teams that have had the most involved discussions with Dallas regarding Davis over the last few months, sources said. The talks with the Hawks have gone dormant, although there is an anticipation that Atlanta could make an offer built around expiring contracts as the deadline nears. If a trade with Toronto materializes, the Mavs would have to take back significant salaries into next season and beyond, so Dallas is prioritizing draft compensation in those discussions. Davis, who has been sidelined by a hand injury since early January, is averaging 20.1 points and 11.1 rebounds in 20 games this season. The Mavericks (19-31) entered Wednesday on a five-game losing streak and are 12th in the Western Conference, 3.5 games behind the 10th-place Portland Trail Blazers (23-28). The Raptors (30-21), on the other hand, are in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race and entered Wednesday tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for fourth place.

So, I think they are right for him, too.

Like I said, I'd be pleasantly surprised if we got a 1st for Gafford. You're not getting anything for AD, Naji, PJ, or Klay edit: Stein segment starts at 51:55 mark. https://www.youtube.com/live/po9_82YjUUs He says even Gafford isn't garnering any interest. No one offered a 1st for Naji. Klay has one year left on his deal that no one wants. No one wants DLo above the minimum. He's opting in to his option for next year.

The one that includes Quickley, not Poeltl. It's not as simple and doesn't make as much sense for both sides, but it's one I think still leaves the Mavs with a really good team next year, and a potential asset in Barrett, to use in a deal again this summer.

There is no Atlanta deal with Risacher. Even when AD was healthy, ATL never offered Risacher. There was hope they might offer him. Once AD got hurt, that hope was gone.
If you take on the Poetl contract, you might get one 1st for AD.
