@esidery
The Clippers, Hawks, Mavericks, Nets, Pelicans, and Timberwolves are among the teams to recently express trade interest in Bennedict Mathurin. The Pacers are actively shopping Mathurin, an upcoming restricted free agent, on the trade market for a starting center.

The Warriors are targeting a reunion with Andrew Wiggins via trading Jonathan Kuminga, per @TheSteinLine. Miami has been adamant on a first-round pick in any potential Wiggins deal. Golden State can match salary with Miami by including Kuminga, Buddy Hield and a 1st-round pick.

That trade sans the NOP pick is probably closer to the ballpark. Respectfully, I disagree. Taking on TWO YEARS of an empty Max contract is significant. That's two seasons where a third of the Mavs' cap is a black hole. Likewise, in terms of value, who is worth more? Tre Murphy at 4 yrs/$25+ million per or Naji at 2 years/$9 mil per. It's long been considered that Murphy nets 3 1sts plus something. Do you still think Naji doesn't get at least one first plus at least a swap, if not something? And I view this trade in terms of multiple seasons. The Mavs are basically hamstrung for two seasons, while the Hawks are getting multiple players who can help the next two years. If the deal is close, then the Mavs can figure in a protected Lakers pick that converts to a Mavs'2030 or 2032. Yes, I like the Pelicans' pick, but it's far from a slam dunk that it's guaranteed to be a Top 3.

Different situations but sort of the same as the Mavs. The Giannis injury may be good for the Bucks. Bucks may have their last good pick for awhile if this season goes downhill. Atl gets the better pick of bucks or NO. The bucks get the other pick. Best case is they get a top 5 pick. They could take that player and get Giannis buyin or trade that pick for a player. Much more likely is they move Giannis and hope this years pick is added for one of the developmental pieces for the next team.
I would also be looking to move Kuzma and Turner. Man, how bad has that GM’s moves been? I believe he got an extension recently too.

Just saw a report that the TDL isn't going to be as robust as people think because of all the injuries and dealing with the aprons. Only a few teams are in position to make moves that won't affect them financially.

@TheSteinLine
The Grizzlies say Ja Morant will be out for at least three weeks — and thus beyond the Feb. 5 trade deadline — due to a UCL sprain in his left elbow.

The Bucks and Pelicans picks could really both end up top 3, giving the Bucks one of the 3 franchise players in this draft (it really doesn’t matter which one you get), saving them from a decade of utter ruin, and even setting them up to get back into contention pretty quickly if they make the right Giannis deal. It’s the same sort of low probability event that rescued the Mavs and seems to happen more than mathematically expected in the NBA. Weird. You can almost count on that scenario, with Atlanta being the unwitting beneficiary (since they must draft higher than the Bucks) and pretty much foreclosing other teams tanking possibilities. Of course, this is just food for thought for conspiracy nuts, but it’s on brand for the league.

What do you suggest they do? Sitting their 19 and 22 year olds because they’re too good would be “one dumb franchise”. They’re without their top players already. Playing 2-way and 10-day contract guys. I guess you’re calling them dumb because Naji is playing too well and they should mandate that Kidd sit him for the season?

I don't know what Tre Murphy's value is, but I'm not sure why we are comparing the two? Tre is a 25 year old starter who scores 23 points a game. Naji is a 28 year old rotational player who scores 14 points a game. They are very different players. If the Mavs do make a deal this TDL, I think you are going to be very disappointed with the return.

They could lose to me, if they wanted to. How is it that every other team can lose on purpose, but this one can´t? They don´t want to. Cuban is back. You guys are so gullible, you deserve Nico and Cuban.

Yeah, they started Caleb Martin and played him 20 minutes. Can't ask for much more than that. Flagg/Naji/Max are playing really well right now. The real tanking will be decided at the TDL. That would involve trading or shutting down AD and Kyrie, and trading away Naji and Gafford for assets.

We’ve posted a lot of trade ideas the last several weeks but not many predictions. I think the Mavs will trade two players by the deadline. Gafford and DLO.
The obvious Gafford deals involve IND/Mathurin and ATL/Kennard+Pick. Other teams include BOS, LAL, TOR. As for Russell… DLO+Cash to anyone that can take him for air. The maximum amount of cash they can send is $7.96M. It covers most of DLO’s contract and saves Dumont more in tax+salary than the ~$8M being sent out. Making these two trades opens up a roster spot for Nembhard. The Mavs can then waive Exum to add Cisse to the 15-man, when he runs out of two-way eligibility.

I thought EVERY trade proposal was a prediction... I think these are fairly plausible predictions. I don't think it will cost that much to ship Russell out. Maybe I'm delulu, but for a team in need of a 6th man, his deal doesn't suck at all. He might be the best shooter on this whole team. If he's IN A ROTATION, his deal is kind of a bargain, imho. |
