@NationMffl
Shams Charania:

“If you put Anthony Davis on the open market right now he’s fetching you four or five first-round picks right now.”

This quote was from June.  I'm skeptical that was the case then, but much more likely then than now.  It feels like his value is sinking by the day

Probably couldn't even trade him for Luka at this point even if the Mavs threw in Christie and a pick.

KP is an expiring contract. In such scenario, we are rebuilding on Flagg's timelibe with two top 10 (likely top 7 ) picks in this deep draft, and potentially another one next year if we managed to get our pick back from the Hornets.

The Pelicans pick would be the return, not KO

And now to answer the Davis question

From a talent standpoint I think you would keep him. Because what would we even get in a trade? A fringe starter and a couple meh, non-lottery picks?
At his best, he is so much better than anything we could get in a trade. Just an issue of ever seeing that version of him.

But from the mental side, it might be best to take what we can get and put the stink of that trade behind us. Establish fully that this is Cooper's team

Fair enough.

It does not really seem like AD and Flagg are good fits on the court together.  I also fear that another couple of injuries and that AD contract could be a negative asset.  I think we are better off getting what we can for him.  Its unfortunate this decision was not made in the offseason.

Flagg&PJ are perfect at SF&PF...

Not sure that AD needs to play another game as a Mav, unless the trade partner just needs to see that he's healthy
Not very astute ^^^^

The first time he goes off for 30 & 15, send him to the highest bidder. He will never be embraced by Mavs fans and is an odd fit.

Well that would be the easiest Yes of all time

"Heat Receive: Anthony Davis

Mavs Receive: Herro, Fontecchio, Ware, 2029 1st"

Maybe I'm lower on Davis than I should be but that doesn't seem realistic to me as an option

I don't hate the guy. There are just a million reasons why he's in the wrong place.

Bam and Davis seem as overlapping a lot. Neither is particularly enthusiastic to play the center, which they should since they are both limited shooters.

I'd probably do this if we were giving the 29 pick rather than receiving it.  As Omahen pointed out, this makes no sense for Miami.

Herro on my team might be more difficult to swallow than D'Lo.

I think Charlotte had a really good draft. They may be moving into the right direction. The big question is if Ball can be one of your best players on a good team.

What about a deal centered around Gafford and Sexton. Straight up it feels light for Dallas. A first added by Charlotte seems too much.

klay for an expiring and seconds?

I´d say AD/Klay for Lavine/DeRozan + Kings 2026 + 2028 swap rights (with our Thunder 1st round pick) is the trade that you do, if you want to stay competitive through the pick drought of 2027 - 2030.

It´s straight forward with regards to the players and it makes so much sense for both teams on paper.

Kyrie/Russell
Lavine/Christie
Flagg/DeRozan
Washington/Marshall
Lively/Gafford

Schroeder/Westbrook
Monk/Ellis
Murray/Klay
Sabonis/Achiuwa
Davis/Eubanks

You´d still want to tank and get two great picks in the draft as the Mavericks.

2026/2027 Mavs

Brown Jr. / Kyrie
Christie / Lavine
Flagg /DeRozan
Boozer /Washington
Lively / Gafford

That looks like a good bench. Big Grin

LaVine is perfect for the tank, i don't think he will ever had a winning season in his career ...

Then just make our pick lottery protected.
It gives us assurance in case we fail to buil a competitive team next season, while Charlotte might keep our pick if things went well and we are in the playoffs.

hmmm...I wonder if it would need to be the other way around.  That could be a lottery ticket for Charlotte.  How about they keep the pick if it is in the lottery but dallas gets it outside the lottery.

No idea if they would want Gafford.  They have a young center but Gafford would fit in nicely.   Sexton is a free agent I believe so they would get a cost controlled really solid center who is a great teammate.

I may change my opinion, but right now I am in the grouping of get AD and Kyrie healthy and keep them.  With the new cap, the game is a little bit different.  It is almost like you have 3 year runs now.  You can always pivot and move one or both.  Or in a few years they come off the books before Flagg's extension and you have FA cap space to pair with hopefully Flagg, Lively and your first round pick this year.   That could be the best of both words.  They just need more creation and shooting in addition to hitting their 26 pick.
