Well apparently this guy is interesting. So interesting the Mavs want him to compete for a spot.

But not so interesting that I"ve heard about him. A 6'8" Point Guard who apparently can play, but maybe needs a little work on that shot.
I don’t want to buy into any tinfoil hat theories immediately, but as gets mentioned in that Reddit thread, Martin, Exum and DSJ all not playing (as well as Kidd avoiding questions as to why in some cases) is interesting in the context of this signing.

That's actually worth noting and I thought much the same thing.
If they aren't talking about Exum, and they invite Dalano Banton to camp... it's hard not to see a correlation. It's possible they'd just like to get the best player from DSJ, and BWill, and Banton.
Edit:: 46th pick in the 2021 draft. From everything I read, he'd rather have 10 assists than 10 points.... which might be OK here. I'm assuming he's headed to GL though.

I think it's a massive overreaction to label the signing of a rando to a camp contract (E 10, which is essentially a ticket to the GL that puts a few extra dollars in the player's pocket when he is waived from camp and signs with your GL team) as "the Mavs are wanting him to compete for a spot." I expect he'll be gone in a week - or less. Just like Cleveland before him. There should be more.

They see the league swinging back to bigger lineups as these guys come with more skills than just standing under the basket for a rebound. Claimed part of the change was driven by a drubbing they got last season when AD+Gaff smoked them during a late season game. I don't remember it as I was still in Luka-remorse, but I guess they do.
Of course you always want more size, but just playing a big because he’s a decent big isn’t going to work out. Bigs have gotten better at shooting the 3 and guarding the perimeter. If at least one of your two bigs can do that, then you’ll be successful. If not, you’ll be vulnerable.

Looking forward to see if the motion offense rollout is successful or a train wreck.
We all know this one doesn't count, just want to get through it healthy. Interested in seeing if any of the end-of-bench and camp signings show anything useful.
Men typically stop growing around ~22 years old. But it varies. And NBA players aren't typical.
I wouldn't be surprised if Cooper put on another inch or two. Though I don't think it'd make that much of a difference for his game.

This was my first fan jam game viewing. Is it always like watching an all star game with no all stars?

They had two full years of evidence showing that Exum's body couldn't handle the NBA season and still wasted a roster spot on him. I'm glad he's not extension eligible.

Not sure why the Mavs would go after Monk? He seems very redundant with Dlo. He is not a defender and shot less than 36% from three the last three seasons (32.5 last season).

I have never had the privilege of sitting courtside, but watching that video and see the talking in defense, the speed, the quickness and the physical play sure shows you how tough it is to play in the NBA.
It is also easy to see how a young player could get lost on defense. It is much more than being able to guard your man. It also shows you how amazing the best scorers are in the league who can go out every night and get 30 against these defenses. They make it look much easier than it is.

Another thing watching that video. AD really talks on defense. Cooper for his first practice is very quiet. I found it funny on the way to the gym on the bus for the first practice, everyone was with headphones and/or phone, but cooper had neither and was just looking out the window. I didn’t know that was possible for 18 year olds.
You can also see how much they value Klay’s leadership both on and off the court and might be the main reason why they aren’t going to mess with him not starting.
Also Kidd freaking out when AD and Kyrie started matching up on a break.
