True, insanely good when healthy, which is why I can see how Nico could be so infatuated with his 'when healthy' value that he made the massive mistake of selling Luka so far short on comparative value.
It wasn't only the age that should have fetched much more for Luka and would have if he were actually shopped in the league but its the relative chance that Luka could get in shape and offer many healthy seasons vs the relative chance the Anthony Davis will offer many healthy seasons.
Quote:AD 32 yrs vs Luka 26 yrs - What are the chances? - Davis has only played more than 75 games in a season three times in his career.
- 2016-2018: Two relatively healthy seasons, playing 75 games both years
- His injury frequency and variety have earned him a reputation for being injury-prone, especially concerning lower-body soft-tissue and joint issues.
- Recent seasons have included more core muscle and serious eye injuries, showing new types of durability concerns as he moves into the later part of his career.
This comprehensive pattern illustrates a player persistently affected by injuries from nearly all major body areas throughout his NBA tenure.
AD doesn't have a single persistent injury worry which in one sense offers some hope but on the other hand we see that he hasn't had full healthy seasons since he was in much younger body. Nico should have pushed this point to get a much better return in a trade IF it was going to be made at all.
Quote:I've decided it's time to just accept AD and get over the trade. Flexing that emotional IQ. If the Mavs are to be successful the next 2 years it'll be through AD.
Yup, done is done. But with skinny Luka in town now it's not likely to go away as a Dallas nagging discussion any time soon if ever. Best scenario with AD would be to get a fully healthy season of all star AD and then trade out while he's healthy for younger assets on the Cooper timeline, ideally after getting a ring.

100.
We apologize to Cuban, who just embarrassed himself trying to defend Ballmer against Torre. Only for Torre to turn around and provide Cuban with evidence that he was butt ****** during the Brunson deal without noticing it. That will really show us what a genius Cuban is.

If there was a scab starting to develop, it's been picked off. Well, WSJ can call it a revenge tour, but that level of emotion is hard to maintain over an 82+ games schedule. To me, it's sad Luka had to get publicly shamed before he would commit to getting in NBA-level shape. If he really loved DAL, he would have been more responsive to internal criticism and coaching. I guess if you think you are untouchable, then it's hard to motivate yourself to do the hard stuff.
He may be a monster to start this year, but we'll see if he can maintain it all season, once the fatigue of B2B, 3in4 and 4in5 schedules sets in.
FWIW, I really liked the news that Klay set up a team bonding event in CA a few weeks back. That's an aspect that Luka, who spends his summers in Europe, has never participated in. I was looking forward to seeing how the team gelled last season after the shared experience of a Finals run and most of the roster back, but injuries and Nico blew that up. I'm hoping the offseason bonding helps DAL get off to a better start.

We'll see what happens when he has that first injury that keeps him out 2 to 3 weeks
Will he let himself go and gain 15+ pounds or will be stay locked in? Amazing just how quickly he can put on weight

I love Luka for his natural talent and the way he has been treated post trade by the organization and some fans is shameful. Nevertheless I am not gullible.
Luka never got in shape!!! Lakers just gave him the skinny drug injections. Germany has beer. France has wine. LA has Ozempic. It is blatantly obvious. He´s already gaining his weight back.
Vlade Divac was right about his dad though. He is a problem.

Agreed although I haven't seen many Dallas fans treating him badly.
So why didn't the Mavs give him the skinny drugs? Nico didn't have the hookup?

Uh they often cause loss of muscle strength. Perhaps not such a good idea.

Luka Doncic said diet and discipline was his secret to slimming down
The Slovenian guard was quick to shut the rumors down.
"No Ozempic? None of those shots or anything," Melvin asked the Lakers star.
"No," Doncic said flatly, while also revealing his disciplined offseason routine and a few unorthodox changes.
"I would say me and my team just tried some new things. Different food, different practices," he explained.

Mavs bringing Dennis smith he to camp. Sort of odd but he will get his chance to win a spot.

Mavericks All-Star big man Anthony Davis returned to the practice floor this week for some 5-on-5 play, @TheSteinLine has learned.
It’s believed to be Davis’ first game-speed action since it emerged in July that he needed eye surgery to mend a detached retina.

That's good news!
Where are we in the process right now? I'm more disconnected than usual. Is this actual training camp, or the voluntary, pre-camp, informal scrimmage portion of the offseason?

I believe it's the latter but not 100% sure on that.

Haven't even started training camp yet. But its soon. They are supposed to have training camp September 30th in Canada this year. They are probably ramping up for pre-camp scrims.

More about Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (6'9" - 230 lbs)
"He played a career-high 66 games for New Orleans last season, averaging 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per night while shooting 34.1% from three.
This would mark the 21st and final training camp roster spot the Mavs have to offer."
