Really cool. My favorite part is about halfway through when he makes it clear how focused he is on landing on the Mavs roster.

Popeye Jones

"In a game on March 10, 1994, Jones collected 12 offensive rebounds without a single defensive rebound. The 12 offensive boards without recording a defensive rebound stands as an NBA record since the league started tracking the category in 1973–74.[1]

His best season was in 1995–96 with the Mavericks when he averaged 11.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while making 14 of 39 three-point attempts, after averaging 10.3 points and 10.6 rebounds the previous year. He holds NBA career per game averages of 7.0 points and 7.4 rebounds. He once secured 28 rebounds in a single game for the Mavericks in the 1995–96 season, still a team record.[1]"

Dallas Mavericks coaching staff changes this offseason:

Out:
- Sean Sweeney
- Jared Dudley
- Alex Jensen
- God Shammgod
- Darrell Armstrong

In:
- Frank Vogel
- Mike Penberthy
- Jay Triano
- Popeye Jones
- Phil Handy

I’m actually excited about the coaching staff changes. The new guard can come in and implement changes that fit this roster post-Luka. I’m most excited about Vogel and Handy. Maybe Handy can make Hardy a serviceable ball-handler.

Same.

Other than Dudley, I'm not really worried about anyone leaving, and the only reason that one hurts is that I know everyone around the league loves the dude. It feels to me like the new staff is bringing more legitimacy.

I didn’t get a chance to watch until now.  I am typically not a fan of athlete produced media, but I thought that was some of the best I have seen.

Plus, it just freshens up things.

Even though the coaches that left were the "good guys" I think, it's nice to have new people who didn't suffer through the dark legacy brought on by this front-office. New excitement now, new conversations, no grumbling, no water cooler talk. All that makes for a more positive in-house atmosphere.

That's exactly how I feel about Shamgod and Darrel Armstrong. Armstrong has been here since Avery Johnson was coach, I think, maybe longer. Change can be good.

Genuinely shocked at how good this vlog was.

Looking past all the cinematics, what really stood out to me was how DLo was set on Dallas. That means something to me at least. He recognizes the opportunity he has here. And if this video is to be believed as a slice of his life, he is putting in the work to capitalize on that opportunity.

That moment in the video where he said "Dallas is all I want. All I'm putting out there." That mindset is truly what we need. And then he randomly busts out Locked On Mavs as a voiceover??? I'm not sure if DLo himself listens to Locked On Mavs, but that shows whoever on his team did their research well.

At the end when he's facetiming AD, he goes "I won't let you down." And that carries extra weight given that glossed over moment in the video where his 2nd most ever assisted to player in his career was AD, and the chemistry is there for sure.

Overall, I'm pretty excited about DLo. This vlog has given me some hope that he will return to maybe his Brooklyn days where he could be a sub-allstar type player. That kind of player *should* radically transform our outlook on the lineup. That is a 20ppg with amazing passing type player.

Finally, for as much crap we have given Nico (rightfully deserved), he still has the respect of players. I mean it's crazy that DLo still had his numbered save from when Nico was at Nike. He was/is truly connected. And it was pretty eye-opening hearing him talk to DLo vs. how he talks to the media. He seemed pretty personable and charismatic. With the media, Nico is enigmatic and stiff and comes off as a dolt that says canned phrases that enrage everybody. Not absolving him from anything, but I commend Nico for this DLo signing.

An update tonight in Vegas for the @DLLS_Sports (and @CHGO_Bulls) audience before our run of shows here:

The Mavericks have made a notable addition to their training staff, hiring Bulls head strength and conditioning coach Geoff Puls, league sources tell @TheSteinLine.

Who is the offensive coach now? I view Vogel and Kidd as more defensive coaches, but somebody has to be able to put together an offensive plan, not just roll out the ball and let them go do what they do.

The way I see it:
Frank Vogel - DC type
Jay Triano - OC type
Mike Penberthy - Offense/Shooting
Popeye Jones - Defensive focus
Phil Handy - Player development/skills

Didn't Armstrong get into some legal trouble recently?  I didn't know he was still on the staff.

Agreed.  Nice production.
Agreed.  Its really significant that he targeted one team for what could be his career closing contract, Dallas.
The biggest issue with Russell has been the general inconsistency of his effort even more than the shooting.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2522...ency-video
Quote:Russell split the 2024-25 season between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. He put up cumulative averages of 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He shot 39.0 percent from the field and a career-worst 31.4 percent from three-point range.
Here's a 29 year old that held 3-pt shooting % records for 2 NBA franchises!

Motivation is a huge factor in performance especially Vets like DLo with proven game attributes.
As for Nico, much of the younger generation today communicate in just those types of canned phrases
Evidently he's speaking the language.

I don't think it's that big of a surprise. Good, but not surprising. We know Harrison asked PJ if he could play with Flagg.

It seems like the plan is to get everyone locked up in a sustainable way, see how Flagg fits and then figure out what they need. Depending on what was out there this summer (which we can't know from our POV), that's not a bad plan at all.
