NBA Summer League July 10th-20th:

I wonder how much jeopardy OMax is in if Ajinca is a solid player. On paper they are very similar with similar archetypes and playstyle. Ajinca can be signed to a cheaper deal than OMax by the tune of 1.7mil difference, (3mil for Omax vs. 1.2 for Ajinca).

I think a team like the Nets or Wizards could be interested in Omax for some 2nds.

Um...

You realize we need to jettison OMax (or Powell or Hardy) in order to make room for BWill anyway, right? Too many players.

B-Will is already on the roster. Unless you meant Exum.

Ajinca could be given the last 2-way spot.

if Cisse or Sharp look good they can add them on a 2 way as well and with Nembhard as the PG 2 way and Kelly the wing 2 way the last 2 way needs to be for insurance to use in the regular season when street clothes eye ball acts up and he starts wearing an eye patch, talking like Johnnie Depp and dressing up as a pirate. Argh me mateys.

Melvin Ajinca is among the last Mavericks on the floor after Summer League practice, working on his jumper.

Jumper looks smooth.

Dallas drafted Ajinca last year, and he could end up being a candidate for the Mavs’ final two-way spot.

I like that they go in...but it's a weird looking shot. I'm no shooting expert, but I feel like he's giving up some extension shooting on the way up like that.

I think he recognizes this is sort of his last big tryout for the NBA. That last 2-way spot is wide open.

Clatyon Jr. might end up being a really good player.

I'm sure his NBA career will be determined by his defense... because he looks like the next Jason Terry every time I see a video of him.

I agree.  It is sort of weird.  Sort of a slow release but noticed that last year too.   Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think the Doncic step backs will be heavily shown early in his career.  We will see.

Broghammer discusses summer league.

Broghammer likes Ryan Nembhard.. and so do other players.

Miles Kelly is an impressive interview

Nembhard is quickly becoming my most favorite player to keep an eye on besides Flagg obviously.

I hope he has a good summer league. Ajinca too.

"Flagg & Co. kick off their summer league slate with a high-profile matchup against a Los Angeles Lakers squad that once again features Bronny James (July 10, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN)."

Can we read anything into OMax's absence from the SL roster? I don't know if he's ineligible, but it would be a chance to show him off to potential trade partners.

I think more likely he'll be going out in a trade. They wouldn't play him if they had that in mind.

It's not that common to see players in Summer League for year three, but it does happen. I would think he would be a candidate for playing if the Mavs planned on keeping him.

The rules on NBA summer league rosters are pretty open. Anyone is eligible to play. The only restrictions teams have are as follows:

Quote:No NBA Team may simultaneously enroll more than four (4) Veterans in any summer basketball league during an off-season. For purposes of this Section 4(a), the following players are not considered Veterans:
  • a player who has never signed a Player Contract or whose
first Player Contract begins with the Season immediately
following the off-season in which such summer league is to
    be conducted;
  • a player not under contract to an NBA Team at the time he
    enrolls in such summer league;
  • a player under contract to an NBA Team but who missed
twenty-five (25) or more of the Team’s games during the
Regular Season immediately preceding such off-season due
    to injury or illness; and
  • a player who played for a team in the NBAGL or any other
U.S.-based professional league during all, or any portion, of
the Regular Season immediately preceding such off-season.

OMax would be considered a "vet" but looking at the Mavs summer league roster it doesn't appear like they are limited by this rule. Typically players who have "graduated" summer league never return. Maybe the Mavs feel like  OMax has graduated and won't really gain any benefit from playing against rookies. Maybe they don't value OMax anymore.

Point is, not much can really be read into it. Hardy isn't on the roster and neither is Brandon Williams.

Omax is probably still rehabbing from his right wrist surgery around mid-March.

Unfortunately, I think OMax is at the end of his rope in Dallas, unless they can package him in some sort of deal or they could just request waivers on him. I don't think teams would give up much in return. He's in the same position a lot of players are in when they bring in new talent. The competition is fierce.
