That being said, by the grace of God, a miracle or a rigged NBA (not trying to debate this one), how anyone could be disappointed with the current team is beyond crazy. This team is loaded beyond belief. Once Kyrie returns and DLo returns to the bench, we have to have the best 10 deep team in the league. Does that mean we are the best team in the league, no absolutely not. It just means the talent is there if they can figure out how to use it. Whatever happens, we have the best American prospect since LeBron. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to be a fan, but by some miracle this team is set up better than when Luka was here and I give ZERO credit to Nico for that. Maybe we have to move some pieces for better fits, but the talent is undeniable on this team.

I agree with a lot of this, but I don't think the team is setup better than when Luka was here.  That team was built specifically around Luka, had a large window and went to the finals.  This team has a lot of talent, but its a hodgepodge without any clear direction.  It takes a long time for teams with this many new parts to figure out what works and how to jell, and they don't have a lot of time because so much of the talent is old or injury prone or both.

on the Mavericks coaching situation...

"Denver has "the most serious approach" and they "are the most serious threat" to hire Jared Dudley away.

The Mavericks and Jason Kidd are going to try and convince Frank Vogel to take the number one chair on the Mavs bench that is currently vacant from Sean Sweeneys departure.

Stein believes Jared Dudley wants to stay in Dallas, but the Nuggets offer is for the number one seat on their bench and that is something he doesn't believe he will pass up.

Yesterday was the last day of God Shamgods contract with the Mavericks, the Magic are a very serious threat. The expectation is that the Magic will be successful in getting him out of Dallas. Stein expects a resolution in the coming days.

Welcome back BigD.

The Nico hate is justified. He betrayed fans, this franchise, and everyone who cared about basketball. But we can compartmentalize. Luka is still a Mavs legend. He will forever will be. He never wanted to leave. Nico will never get credit, nor will he ever be celebrated within Dallas. But the players and the staff are separate from this. And Cooper Flagg is a new era and deserves our support.

No use in getting mad at the TEAM. But anger is 100% justified and should be directed towards Nico every chance you get.

You make the call, even though you expect they hang up on you pretty quickly.   Nothing short of an outright demand is going to get them to trade Giannis.

If I had to bet, next summer is when Giannnis asks to be traded so that's what I would be gearing my assets towards.

I don't see any real value in trading for Herb Jones, and certainly would not spend a pick.
1 He has injury question marks (major shoulder thing)
2 He has offense question marks (and the injury itself has a good chance to make that worse)
3 Most of all, just like Martin, I dont see a role or minutes for him. AD, PJW, Flagg, Naji, and perhaps Klay will be getting regular minutes at F, and most of them have WAY more of a 2-way aspect to their usefulness.

I understand the desire to upgrade Mavs useless salary to something less useless, but I think the goal should be to find a player who is likely to be used. Also, imo all 3rd stringers should be on very cheap deals as emergency backups and perhaps developmental projects, and HJ would be none of that.

I think the idea proposed with Jones is that he's more likely to hold up on the perimeter, defensively (to play guard well, in other words) than Flagg or PJW, which I kind of agree with.

Ultimately, I'm with you though. If they're keeping PJ with Flagg and AD, they have the long, athletic forward covered. The needs are confined to ball-handling and SHOOTING, at this point. Obviously, you want to get the best combo of that and on-ball defense you can, but I think Herb Jones, while an upgrade in talent, is kind of just doubling down on what's already here.

Is Herb even an elite point guard defender?
Feels like he's another guy who's at his best guarding forwards

Certainly worse guys to trade for but I don't see him filling a major hole

It has been a rough year, so I get it. They probably need a vacation as much as anyone. But c'mon -- this team is better than 10th in the West.

Just depends on the circumstances.

If while Kyrie is out, AD also gets hurt even a small ankle sprain for 2-3 weeks, we are suddenly a team with 0 all-stars or 1st options.

If Kyries comes out guns blazing and AD stays healthy, I could see us being really good.  That seems like a 20-30% scenario to me.

Either way, you get to say: “See, I was right!”

No

If this team is under .500 in January, I will say I was right Smile I honestly dont follow the NBA that closely anymore (at least compared to before) so I'm not that hung up on my personal wins/losses.

I see too many questions marks (health and fit) while people see big names written down on the screen.

Mavs will be fine defending the front of the rim. It's the perimeter that they'll have problems. That's what makes OKC so good with Wallace, Dort, Caruso, JDub, and SGA. POA defenders. D'Lo, Klay, and B'Will aren't POA defenders like those guys. PJ and Marshall are adequate but will have trouble keeping elite ball handlers in front of them. I didn't add Flagg; he gets an INC, as I'll have to see how he adjusts to the NBA.  But he has the potential to be a good one.
