To the college experts in here :
What sets Proctor apart from Kam Jones? Is it the shooting and the connection to Coop? I feel like Jones is more of a ballhandler than Proctor is and was thinking if he wouldn't be the better fit for us?

When you're a second round pick, I don't believe a team is too concerned about the team's immmediate needs. You just take the best player available.

I'm actually not sure who that it is, but I hope the Mavs organization has a better idea than I do.

I will Be pretty surprised if Dallas traded early in the second round. I think if they were to make a trade it will be a 2 for 1 for an established player. Like Martin and Omax for someone like Ball.

I could see them buying a mid 2nd pick. Those guys are typically two way guys and Dallas has 2-3 spots open it appears. Although this goes against their history too. They probably just bring back Gortman, maybe Ajinca or an older two way guy and then grab an undrafted.

I am not expecting much

I would have been pretty excited if we kept the Philly pick.   I didn't read much about a lot of the second rounders, but the draft appears to slip in the mid 30's to basically two way guys.    I know Dallas really doesn't have spots if they kept that Philly pick, but there are a few guys who interest me.

And he made a bone headed move by trading up with Atl, to get Derik Queen, good on offense, but a traffic cone on D. And giving up a unprotected 1st in the process. This isn't the same Joe Dumars of 20 years ago obviously that built the 04 Pistons.

I just don't get the new GM moves.  In a vacumm you can talk your way through them.   Trading CJ and Olynyk is a wash in talent, but picking up Poole just doesn't make sense.  They have Murray coming back sometime too.

I actually like Fears and Queen, but both need to be in the right situation to succeed.    Giving up an unprotected first is just so reckless.  Especially where they are viewed in the west.  That could legit be a top 8 pick next year.

Atlanta had a nice night last night.

The Mark Williams trade was interesting. Charlotte got a 29 first. Is that a PHX pick? Is it unprotected? I actually like McNeeley more than Knecht. Williams has health concerns and some on defense, but I have liked him. He needs to play with someone who can get him (and Maluach) easy baskets. Not sure PHX has that.

The Portland center pick was weird. His highlights are fun, but Clingan looked good last year. Tough to see them both playing next to each other. They are both sort of lumbering centers. Portland had a few interesting days with roster construction.

I can't take this guy seriously. He looks like a vampire.

I would not classify myself as an expert, but those are two big reasons for me.

Proctor is an elite spot up shooter. That is a valuable skill on a team when you have 4 other guys on the floor who want to score as well. Second, his connection not only to Coop but to Lively too. Having a familiar face on a new team for a rookie is a pretty big deal in terms of settling in and finding your role. Third, his size for his position intrigues me.

He's not a traditional PG, and he certainly isn't the scorer that Kam Jones is. But for what the Mavs are looking for, I think Proctor is a better fit.

They don't have one, but could trade into the second round or buy a pick.
But they would only to that if there is still someone left they really like. This is why i was asking if people would rather like Proctor or Kam Jones.

I would be more than happy with Proctor. I simply don't know much about Jones.
