Mark Walter doesn't change the facts of the Lakers' situation at all:
1. They desperately need a center.
2. They don't have significant assets to offer in trade.
3. As long and Luka and LeBron are chewing up 2/3 of their cap space, they can't sign two-way, core pieces.
4. All the owner dollars in the world don't change the limits of the CBA and cap.

Screw the Lakers and hope that we keep that first round pick they gave us. Maybe it is worth something. They need to fail for us to improve. Hopefully it is a lottery pick what kind of protection is on that pick? If there is any at all I am going to be pissed off at NTI.

I believe the pick is unprotected, and I believe it's going to be a good one, whether the Mavs help them with a center or not. The Buss/Pelinka combo has been a disaster in LA, and in fact, the franchise would have been a dumpster fire for like 15-20 years if not for LeBron randomly deciding he wanted to live in LA and then the Luka deal happening. I'm quite confident they won't win a championship any time soon.
To your point, that pick would be my most prized asset if I was a Mavs decision maker (next to Cooper Flagg, of course).

Sources close to the team and around the league tell Irwin that the offseason pursuit of a big man has been frustrating so far because rival clubs are hoping to take advantage of L.A.’s predicament.
“The worst spot you can put yourself in is trying to negotiate while everyone knows about your desperation,” a former executive told Irwin. “The whole league knows that not only do the Lakers need a starting center and probably a backup, but they need to bring someone in who Luka (Doncic) is going to want to play with. They basically have to hope someone else reaches their current level of desperation so that the talks can be held on even footing.”
Someone please smash Nico's phone.

I like this trade for the Rockets. They're in dire need of a SG. I wonder what we can get for Hardy?

WTF is PHX doing?! If Beal taught them anything, it’s that Booker can’t play with another SG. Now with Green, they have 3 SGs

I'm not a doctor but it looks like an Achilles. He went down like Tatum did.

If that's another Achilles, basketball is catching up to football in the hard to watch category. Weird that Siakam has seen so many of these injuries.

Yeah, (if you're a sicko) and watch it close, something seriously POPS. You can see it.

f Haliburton did indeed tear his Achilles, that would be the 8th Achilles tear of the season. The previous high was 5 (14-15). The total doesn't include Thanasis Antetokounmpo who tore his in the offseason or prospect Jalon Moore who was injured in a recent pre-draft workout.

Ya, Mathurin has been a complete bust except for his heroics in the Finals.
