MAVS NEWS:
I am really questioning spending any time or energy on this franchise. The KP trade hurt, but Din ended up being an excellent combo guard for our WCF run. The Luka trade kinda smashed my allegiance. Then the Grimes trade showed me they're all about $$$. I think I'm out.

Apologies if it was posted before.

Why he is mentioning himself and Kobe while talking about Kyrie?

Go to the Fakers then you can talk about Kobe, Shaq and all those players.

Mavs could have 9 guys out tonight. Kai Jones popped up on the injury report and is now questionable.

The PR run the Mavs have had the last 30 days will be studied for years to come.

This is sort of funny or sad. the only press conference Nico did was in Cleveland after the trade (where he joked and was not prepared to deliver a heart felt response). He was not at the press conference with the new players (I get this, but no other comments since this). He is afraid to show his face in Dallas, but was on the court before the Lakers game and was at the Iggy retirement ceremony. When does he give another press conference? Does he?

I hope the next time he does a press conference in Dallas it's him announcing that he's quitting.

That's starting to smell like tank out the season. I think if Kyrie were playing he would be on the court.

It would help them to stay in the play in or late stages of lottery. If they lose out I'm not sure they can really gain much ground.

If I were them at this point just play the young guys from here out. Get ready for next season and try to get better draft positioning.

Great story.  In Derek's defense, he was either sober or is an angry drunk.  :p

"Okay class, we've all heard the expression 'to nico a franchise' but where did that expression come from?  Well, back in 2025..."

"We're talking about one play," he said. "Not many before that. It's a freak accident, that's how it should be reported. We're reporting on conspiracy theories. We want our stars to play. This isn't supposed to be a rest league."

Irving had been the Mavs' most consistent player this season. He was averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 36.1 minutes, and had played in 50 of the team's 62 games. He was selected to his ninth All-Star team in February.

"Kai is our leader," Kidd said. "Kai also was playing at a high level; maybe some of the best basketball that he's played in his career. We can't talk from both sides and say our stars don't play enough minutes and guys don't play enough. They rest. But now we're saying they play too much."

Maybe my theory isn't so "tin foil" after all. I just found this tonight out of Boston. These are direct quotes from Kyrie to the media on the 5th of February just 3-4 days after the Luka trade.

"We were discussing in 2018, just for everybody at home that's watching, because I know all of these words are going to be looked at."

"But yeah, in 2018, it was a dream for Me (Kyrie), AD, KD to be on one team and still keep JT and let him grow and then see how it goes. But back then, those young guys weren't ready to be in trade rumors, man. Our locker room splintered after that, once they found out. It wasn't [Jaylen Brown] or JT, but our locker room splintered once they started figuring out the trade rumors, and our season started going in a whole different way."

"We all had that vision to play together in Boston," Irving added. “Danny Ainge had a large responsibility in that, trying to make it happen, make sure I stayed in Boston. But we had some young pieces in JT and JB and if we would have traded either one of them, who knows if they win a championship. So the franchise had to do what was best for them, and I had to do what was best for me"

I came back here to say that I'll give you one thing. Luka was fine (not damaged like I initially thought). Have fun with KD (cupcake), Kyrie, and AD. I'm done. I feel for you guys. I got to see Dirk win a chip. Now I'll get to see Luka win one or more as a Laker. If you seriously think that Kyrie has changed have fun with that. These guys don't think that way. Kyrie, AD, and KD want to win one together. And they think they can.

I want to see Luka go scorched earth on the NBA. Nico needs to lose his job over this.

What? Didn't you write a week ago that it was nice to see the roster Harrison built where everyone defends and commits? Should I quote that?

It's too easy to change your mind after recent events or add faults to Kyrie to this mess.

When Kyrie was a child, he spoke as a child, now he's put aside his childish ways. At least in public. Seems like a different dude, now, from his public quotes. I figured "nut-job" when they traded for him. Haven't seen that here.

In maybe 1989 I was board president of an organization supporting runaway youth. Derek led a basketball skills camp for us preceding a basketball tournament we hosted. He was totally awesome for more than 100 of my kids. His on ball defense was the very best. His clutch shots at the end of games, save one occasion, brought tremendous joy. Count me among his lifetime fans.

Dumont announcing he's been fired would be better.  Quitting is the easy way out.

Unlikely.  Nike Harrison exemplifies the Adelson "culture" as does minority owner, Mark Adelson.

Dallas Mavericks assistant Alex Jensen has accepted the job as the next coach at Utah, sources tell me and @jeffborzello. He’s a former star player there and has been an NBA assistant since 2013. He’s a former head coach of the Canton Charge in the G League.
